Severe thunderstorm / flash flood warnings were being broadcast over my phone for the Paria Plateau/Kanab area. So, after studying the radar reports, instead of avoiding the area, myself and two German clients decided to race to the area for an attempt at dramatic lighting conditions. Our jaws dropped when the light show started. A lightning storm went by very close, but not quite over the top of us (as the projections had indicated). Just enough to make us a little nervous. The light went nuclear and they got amazing images. This was a quick hand held "grab" shot as I was showing them some possible approaches. I rarely shoot when teaching.

Sony A7R2
Canon 11-24@11mm
1/250th
ISO320
Single image.

That is indeed some awesome light Mark! The 11-24mm really works well here. I would have loved to be in that location during the storm. Well done.

Hey Mark,

There has been some pretty spectacular light in the SW lately. I like this composition, but it does feel over saturated to me. I would back off on it a bit.

Thank you Jim. Looks like you got nice light too out there.

On my calibrated 27 inch Mac Thunderbolt, in Chrome, it looks spot on to me for what we saw which was outrageous. I do adhere to sometimes taking down saturation a bit when you get crazy light like this, just to make it more believable, but here I just left it to the best of my memory and the memory of my two clients. Both said they thought I "nailed it."

Nice one, Mark. You are slowly convincing me to upgrade to the 11-24.

Great shot Mark! Lighting is wonderful....On a side note, I now find myself scrolling down through posts to see how Jim Fox is going to critique images. I can usually guess when he is going to have a little "knock" on the good images. I am rarely surprised.

Thank you everyone for the compliments and comments. I really appreciate it. Sorry my replies are scarce. I am in the remote, guiding, as usual for this time of year...

Great light to you!

Thank you. Best lens on the planet right now IMO. In a year and a half, I have shot 90% of my images at 11mm.

Thank you. Yes, when you are leading people, unless everyone is setup knowing what they are doing, you don't want to be shooting. So, I do little grab shots like this often.

Thank you so much! I think near 100X now. I lead workshop/tours here all throughout the months of July - November.
