Here is a capture of a performance art piece at an art competition in Grand Rapids, MI (USA) called, Art Prize. This is using my Voigtlander Nokton 35/1.2 II at f/1.2 in very low light. I was able to acquire AF, so that really pleased me (ISO 12,800 - my max; 1/25 shutter).

Has anyone installed the Sony A7II update 3.20 yet? Has it impacted on using the TAP?

Question again I bought a Kipon adapter Sony Alpha to Leica M mount in order to use Alpha mount lens on TAP and get AF. I receive the adapter today, but I could not put it on TAP because TAP blocks the ring to change aperture. Does anybody have any experience with that adapter? That's the only adapter that I know for Alpha lens to M mount. Also, I saw this one (the first picture).

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3951270?page=2

The picture shows an Alpha lens + Kipon adapter + TAP + Sony camera. Did he do anything to his adapter? He mentions that he can use it semi AF, so that must be the TAP. I would have contacted him, but I'm not a member there

Please help. I was so excited until I found that I could not mount the adapter. Many thanks

I would get either the Sony LA-EA3 or LA-EA4 for Sony/Minolta A-mount lenses. Which one you need will depend on your lens or lenses. You will get the exif data on your file and more AF features with either one, as well.

Thank you. I was thinking about that. But the lens is a manual focus only lens. It's the same lens as that one 135mm but Sony brand. So, I thought by using TAP I could make it an AF lens.

Hi,
I got the TAP and a few interesting Leica primes (e.g. the 50mm Summicron APO).
Want to do some testing of the adapter tomorrow at the Photokina at the stand of the company that makes this adapter.

Currently I'm using a Leica M262 (the one without LCD), but I'm seriously considering for swapping to a Sony A7II.
Anybody here that has both M and the Sony with the TAP and has the same ideas?

John

Aah, I didn't think of that STF and manual focus lens. Good point but I don't know what can be done in that case.

I am still trying to figure a way to mount my contax 100-300mm with a tripod ring or mount. I know Fred said he had a contax to Leica M adapter with tripod mount but i cannot find any such adapter at this point. The generic tripod rings are not reported to work that well at least from what i have read and seen... Anyone know where such an adapter with tripod mount or collar that works with this lens?

Well, if the adapter does not work, I will get the EA3 and use manual focus. Thanks.

Bit of a stretch maybe, but I have a Contax N 85 that's been converted by Corunus, meaning cameras read it as a native Canon FE lens. But I take it there's no electronic adapter that goes from EF-->Leica M? I'd love to use it with the TAP but aperture is electronically controlled I think, so I can't do a dumb adapter.

Id imagine it could still work since theres still aperture ring on it, yes? You just need an EF to M mount thatll fit...i think

Mark, I am using the cheap eBay tripod mount for my Contax 100-300mm. Not ideal, but it does work very well. However, because it wraps around the lens barrel, you lose the ability to zoom closer than, say, 103mm.

I have that a number of people have better results with constant focus on rather than single. I get good results with the single but the constant can be way off and I hear it searching and can see it searching a lot. Yesterday was the first time I tried the constant and when I focussed and got the green square on a spot, keeping it there and then taking the image, most of the time 20 feet behind whatever I had focussed on, was in focus. Many times I tried it and it never worked correctly. With my Canons, no problem, or when using the A7RII without the TAP it works fine.

Also, even with the trick of disconnecting the battery and replacing it, when the A7RII is turned of, my battery still gets drained. Overnight it lost about 35%. Not so sure this adapter is something that will work out for me, too many hoops to jump through.

Yesterday, my adapter just stopped working. I turned the camera off and back on. Sometimes it would take a delayed picture but most of the time it just refused. I could hear it working. I was outside and pointing at people and buildings . . . nothing. I will try again today, but I am thinking this might have to go back to Amazon since I am just 2 weeks into using this. Up until yesterday, it worked fine.

I've tried it so far on the following lenses on the A7II:

CV 15mm III: works well
MD W-Rokkor-X 28/2.8: works well, but has revealed to me the limitations of this lens, with terrible performance at the edges
MD 35-70/3.6: works well. This lens performs a lot better than the 28 at the edges
CV 75/1.8: works well
MD 135/2.8: doesn't work too well. Needs to be pre-focussed before the adapter can take over

Waiting for my LTM to M adapter ring before trying out my Canon 50/1.4 LTM and Canon 135/2.8 LTM.

Hm, by any chance did you take a shot at a "random" aperture setting prior to that? It happened to me before and I noticed that after I tried to change the focal length setting and accidentally selected an f/ number that was not listed in the manual for changing the FL. I was in panic for a while but at the end, I could get it to work again after I triggered the shutter using f/25 for setting it back to a 50mm setting. Phew!
