Speaking of biotar 58/2 .. Did a few quick test with the Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 58/2 (17blade version). Pretty awesome to be able to autofocus such an old lens and get good results. Not very good edge performer but nice sharpness in the center and character

So, this weekend I tried to use flexible spot, small, and adjusted the focus point off center. Light was pretty good and I shot with an F2.8 90mm Tamron - AF was horrid.
It simply wouldn't focus if it was more than slightly off center.

I have been using center spot AF-S. This seems to work well. I try to focus and recompose which, of course, is not always ideal. Anyone have a suggestion for any other method that works as well? Face detect also works but not sure how well it does (have not done enough to know) when the face is significantly off center.

Somehow AF-C works better and this goes also for Metabones IV. No issues whatsoever in good light and it hesitates a bit in bad light but I move in the AF point just one position, it works just fine again. I normally choose the medium AF pointI and I use the AF back button for my focusing purposes

Would you mind taking a photo of your Konica adapter? I may try to replicate that cut-out with my dremel since these adapters that don't fit are useless to me now. I doubt I'll be able to fix the R issue with infinity, but maybe the others will be OK once I've sliced my way through a bit of plastic.

Here you go. I've included the LR->M adapter in the first two pictures as a frame of reference. As you can see from the head on picture, the cut-out comes perilously close to the bayonet release pin. I think the picture of the A7R II, TAP, AR->M adapter, and mounted lens suggests that the cut-out doesn't need to be quite as deep. But you'd want to take my opinion with a grain of salt because I've never seen a Dremel, let alone used one. Hope this helps...

Nice! I have the later 10 blade version on its way. Hopefully blades won't make a difference between f2 and 2.8. Your images make me look forward to it! Yep TAP rejuvenates these old lenses because their sharpness is modest wide open and their lowish contrast makes them hard to focus wide open. To make the most of that modest sharpness pinpoint focus is needed...

Thank you! That looks pretty serious.. :\ Not sure how well I can do compared to that, but I guess no harm in trying since these adapters don't work anyways.

Now i'm wondering if the Leicaist ones NOT from Techart will work.. or if Techart is the ones doing the routing / plastic cutting..

Ah, I realize that I didn't make that clear in my previous post (and then confused matters with my hypothesis about Techart doing the routing). My apologies. I didn't purchase the Leicaist adapters from Techart. I purchased them from eBay seller che-pin because I assumed (correctly) that they're exactly the same but less expensive than the ones that Techart sells. My guess is that Leinox (manufacturers of the Leicaist adapters) are making them to Techart's specification so that the Leicaist adapters you buy on eBay are exactly the same as the ones you buy from Techart, only cheaper.

Thanks fro the replies. I also focused and recomposed. Didn't try it with AF-C and medium spot, but will in the future.

A couple pics showing great TAP focusing with Zeiss Biogon 21, 2.8, and Chron 75 2.0. Into the sun, and still focusing great!

(Hope I did this right, first attempt at posting pics.)

Edit: Yikes, looks like not, sorry. Not able to use Fbook as image host? Should I use Flickr instead?
Edit 2: Using Flickr as image host:

Edit 3, oh boy, they sure posted in a small size. Is there a tutorial on this?
Edit 4, sorry to be so daft. I hadn't uploaded the full size images to Flickr yet, apparently. Here's try 4:

Hi folks,
I got the adapter today, serial number is 006526.
Got my Leica lenses, but I will get only next week a A7Ii to test the adapter.
How can I find out which firmware is installed on this adapter?

Cheers

John

Ordered on the 8th direct from TechArt Pro and still no adapter... tracking number says departed Hong Kong, but still not even in the hands of USPS.

Did it take anyone else more than 11 days to get their recently ordered TAP?

Unfortunately too late to cancel and order from Amazon (guaranteed delivery by Friday).

If you mount the adapter, and look at the "body firmware" on the Sony, it will show the firmware of the TAP as "Lens firmware.". I just got mine last week from Amazon, and it was firmware 3.0, so I think that's what they're shipping with. It was easy to upgrade, with my Samsung Android phone. I think folks are having more trouble with Iphones. For Android, just go to the Play Store, download the app, and click on "upgrade adapter", after connecting via bluetooth. (There was no password or code required, just showed up on the phone's bluetooth.) Oh, there was a required procedure to get the bluetooth to show up, I think power up, snap a photo and power down. It's clearly expressed in the included TAP instructions. It took a while, 10-15 minutes, just be patient.

Firmware 4 is working great with my Leica Lux 35, Chron 75, and LM Zeiss Biogon 21. Like others have said, about like a slower native EF lens. Amazing.

Mine is shipping to Canada, here is the timeline for mine.

Ordered on the 13th Of Sept
Mailed by TechArt on the 14th
Left HK on the 15th
Arrived in Canada on the 16th
Cleared customs on the 18th
Now with Canada Post....should be an additional couple of days.

So roughly a week from time of ordering for mine.

Love the Biotars

I have two versions of that lens, the original black version and the pre-set silver. I'm curious about the fotodiox M42 adapter, does the adapter have an inner flange or not?

I have a number of Nikon G lenses that I would like to use with my A7RII. Is there any aperture control Nikon G to LM adapter that will work on the Techart? I have read all 54 pages of this thread and apologies if I missed the answer
