p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · a7r viewfinder died / monitor dilemma / hard reset

So the viewfinder on my a7r has apparently given up the ghost, but not before I (hilariously) changed the viewfinder/monitor setting to Monitor Only in an attempt to see if that would revive it.

Predictably, there's now no display available as the monitor has been turned off and the viewfinder is apparently still broken.

I never enabled the option to always have the menu return to the first page, so I don't think I can blind navigate back to turn the monitor on and at least have a semi-functioning camera.

Has anybody figured out a hard reset for the a7r? Or a way to get the monitor back on? Or common causes of dead viewfinders that may be easy to do?

Thanks in advance...

Maybe you can hook up an HMDI cable from the A7r HMDI port to another display device. I think the camera should automatically output to the HDMI display device

I think I heard a common cause of a dead EVF on the A7x is water on the hotshoe for the flash. I keep my hotshoe cover on and a piece of black tape to cover that area completely.

Thanks pdmphoto

Hotshoe has definitely never gotten wet.

Will have to dig around for an HDMI cable, as unless there's a hard reset, I don't know of any other method to at least recover the ability to access menus.
