sunset shot at monument valley. moonrise at the same time. sunt is mostly behind and to the left. what causes the shadown on the clouds and in the sky? no polarizer. I also resisted the strong desire to blow up the moon a bit.
also feel free to C&C opf course

Nice shot, what a beautiful place. If the shadow is camera related, then I can't answer, but it may be explained here:

Photographically speaking, I would like to see more space on the left side if possible. Sure, blow up the moon, why not?

Hey Kevin,

They look like Anti-Crepuscular rays to me.

Nice work with this one, and most of us I don't think would have an issue if you had made the moon a bit larger since shooting WA does shrink the moon. Certainly making it so large that it looks like something out a Science Fiction movie isn't good. I usually will take a shot of the moon at 50 or 70mm and decide later if I want to change out the moon so that it does look more realistic rather then shrunken. But certainly there is no problem at all if you do desire to leave it small like you did here.

thanks Jim. I did take a shot at 70 for that exact reason. I may try doing that and see how it looks. yes 24mm, makes the moon pretty samle.

I have seen the moon swap on a number of shots and it can still look natural. Certainly starts to cross into the realm of art if you are replacing the moon of one shot with another, but WA does tend to make the moon look puny and shooting for appropriate light at sunset will blow the moon out. As Jim said, key is not to make the moon look too big and disproportionate to the landscape. My eye certainly tends to see the moon larger in person than how it shows up in the image.
