p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sunset, Milky Way and the Monsoon

Three more images from my trip to Arizona a little over a week ago
The sunset at WP was amazing on the second night. Been waiting for a sunset like this there and finally came to life. It was pretty breathtaking.
The Milky Way rising at Coal Mine was another shot on the bucket list.
Had this location on my mind for a couple of years and was finally able to capture it.
Stopped back at Coal mine three days later on the way back to Santa Fe and caught
The monsoon in just about full power.
Liking this loca out of the way of the main canyon.

Klaus, those are just so spectacular. You should be very proud of your work and effort that I know that you put in.

Stay safe!

Klaus
As usual - you post inspiring pics.
I think the highlights could use a little more toning down in #1.
#2 - Wow. Nice comp, super colorful and sharp sky (astrotrac?) and great PP.
#3 - great shot but I do wonder what the color version looks like?

All three are superb Klaus!! Love the MW shot and how you maintained the darker foreground without boosting the shadows too much.

Dave, Thanks and the Milky Way shot was done with the Astrotrac.
Just makes a much better final image.

Great work Klaus. The first photo has some sweet light going on, but its a little nuclear for my taste. I think if you toned down the first one a bit you would have an amazing photo. To me its so bright you are losing detail on the side of that knob. Love the clouds and its a really nice comp.

I agree with Dave on toning down the highlights in #1.
All 3 shots are spectacular, all beautifully composed and executed.

Beautiful images Klaus. You have a way of capturing landscapes like not many can. There is a lot of "soul" in your photography.

Dang it. I have been on the fence about the Astrotrac and now you are pushing me over to the side of purchasing one. That second image is stunning and super sharp.

All are amazing.

Bob,
The Astrotrac makes shooting so much easier. Better results with lower ISO shooting.

The Astrotrac is a nice (and fairly cheap) tool for astro. The photo Klaus posted is a perfect situation for using the Astrotrac. A nice clean flat line separating the sky from mid/foreground. This makes PP so much easier. Myself, I have used my Astrotrac a few times but the PP after is such a pain I often just give up. This is mainly due to the fact I have limited PS experience. I usually always have mountains in the background which makes it a bit tricky to combine images. Maybe I need to get educated on PS and make this work!
