This guy is a regular in the park, not the only pigeon feeder but probably the most interesting.

Not sure why, but this shot interests me. I would like to have more story behind it to flesh it out some.

Studying it, the photojournalistic merit is the story for me. So many things to appreciate about this image. For starters, the DOF is mesmerizing. Such fantastically framed zones of blur in back and in front too, apparently thanks to the atypical grace of pidgeon wing movement. Great tones.

Lots of homeless in my city. I tend to dislike images taken of the homeless in general. It's complicated why, but this image transcends my normal level of aversion to homeless folk pics. I see zero exploitation, I guess is what I'm getting at. We are watching him deep in his own interaction with life.

So thanks for sharing this. I wonder what Fred would say?

I like this picture. It tells me a story and this character is intriguing.

Great capture. Post needs a bit of level adjustment IMO. A tad muddy for my taste.

You definitely captured the moment and conveyed a lot about the man. He is very interesting for sure.

I cross-posted this in the BW forum, and noted that I don't ordinarily photograph the homeless or disturbed, either. But this fellow is a park regular, just to feed pigeons, and is photographed all the time. In the moment, one might consider him a street performer before realizing his circumstances.

Ha! Great stuff.

Funny enough, we have both a Washington Square Park and a Pigeon Man, in San Francisco. I have photographed him many times.

Pigeons, winged-rats as they are often called, are fascinating creatures and the people who appreciate/understand them, even moreso.
