Triplets at Dusk, two identical, and one fraternal, at the arboretum this evening.

Last day of the CPS 85mm f1.2 loan :-(

C&C most welcome.

Thanks for looking,

Brian

great portraits! And the curly red hair/freckles/green eyes combo is AWESOME! My son got my fine hair and my wife's orange/red color, but my blue eyes :-) Red/orange hair really is visually STRIKING! Love it!
Assuming you shot all three at f/1.2?

Jonathan,

Thanks for the comments, and i have added the exif, shot at f2.5 so as to render a bit more detail. I shot all three at multiples of f1.2, f1.8, f2.5, f3.5, and f4. I liked the f2.5 iterations that i posted, good combo of both eye sharpness, and background bokeh, besides, i owed a member here that. Thanks D!

The triplets here are two identical, and one fraternal, and i am blessed with triplet brothers as well, also two identical, and one fraternal. The two redheads are scarily similar, no photoshop cloning, i swear!

Regards,

Brian

Wow, I'm surprised by f/2.5! Thanks for that! And wow! Two sets of triplets in that configuration in one family! The odds on that have to be miniscule!
I recently picked up the 5D Mark III and the 85L II will be here Thursday. I take it you loved the combo? Did you notice any difference in AF ability between the center (vertical 5) AF points and outer cross type points?

Jonathan,

Lol, no, it is two seperate family's that had similar triplets, my brothers, Rick, Paul and Dan were born in the country of Hawaii in '58, the triplets presented here are friends, and were born in 2009

As to your question re: the 5D MKIII and the 85mm f1.2, let me be delicate... I do not own the lens, i borrowed from CPS as a gold member for ten days. I have shot +/- 1000 images over the last week in combo with my MK III. It is a wonderful combo when i nail it, and it is frustrating as all hell when i do not. Focus on the 85mm is slow as molassis, maybe even slower. I was not prepared for just how slow AF is on this combo, 2-3 seconds per shot, i kid you not! Yes, 2+ seconds...

I shoot portraiture, and have for 30 years, and no lens i have ever had, has been so syrupy in target aquisition in AF mode, nor has any lens been so pleasing to my eye when on target, with the exception of the 200mm f2 IS, which is out of my current budget. Bottom line, i plan on acquiring the 85 f1.2 in the near future, as it really is a special lens, albeit slow as hell. I run and gun, and this lens just cries for a tripod, and patience. I only used center point focusing on all captures all week, FYI.

Regards,

Brian

Mom and Dad at the shoot as well...

The plus 0.3 EV was carelessness on my part...

All five would have been better with a tripod or monopod, live and learn.

AH! Thanks for the triplet clarification. I just assumed they were your beautiful daughters :-)

And thanks for providing your experience with the 85LII. I've only ever shot with one, and it was only for a minute or two while I was buying a different lens, the 200mm f/2.8L II. I didn't find the focus to be that slow for short distance changes and from minimum to infinity took probably a second or two. Now I'm a little worried and I'm hoping the copy I receive is more like the one I tried than the CPS loaner.

Brian,
These are great! I concur with your selection, it's a nice balance of facial DOF and background bokeh.

I'm glad to see you accepted my challenge. It led to some nice portraits! May I ask another favor? For the sake of those considering getting the 1.2, could you post the same pose side by side, the one at f2.5 that you favored and the frame you took at f1.2? I think it would be useful information for those thinking of going that route. I have the 85mm 1.8. I know there's more to bokeh and IQ than just maximum aperture, but I still find the 1.8 a nice lens, CA and all.

Regards,
Doug
