A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a friend near Syracuse, NY and accomplishing the crazy feat of seeing golden-wing and blue-wing warblers...and Lawrence's and Brewster's warblers (hybrids of the preceding two) all in a single day! Was able to get a few shots of each and your C&C is welcome!
Interestingly, more than a century of debate has circled the hybrids of blue-winged and golden-winged warblers. The Lawrence's Warbler (a cross between previous offspring of Vermivora pinus and V. chrysoptera) is the more rare of the two hybrids, as it will not result from the breeding of a golden-winged and a blue-winged. Instead, a Lawrence's warbler will only be born when it is a child of two already hybridized birds. If a pure golden-winged and pure blue-winged warbler mate, we get the more common Brewster's warbler hybrid.
