Scott, downloading Audubon's free Merlin bird app would be a good idea if you are going to take bird pictures. This is a Tree Swallow.

It is amazing that you could get so close to a swallow that you could use a 100mm lens. This web site may help you:

Thanks to both of you.
I usually try to ID via Cornell's Ornithology site but didn't find anything compelliing.
And I have tried whatbird but not this time.
I will take a look at the Merlin app as well.

Morris, got about 10 feet away, moving in ever so slowly. Heavy crop.

Always like the iridescence of the dark feathers on these speed demons. Good capture Scott!

Yes these are a fav at the local Audubon I try and goto every week. The most amazing flyers, which is why there so much fun to try and take images.
Last week I was talking to someone and right nearby about ten feet away theres a sign saying to stay on the trails , birds nesting.
So a large group was slightly in back of me and a pair of swallows decided to mate right on top of the nesting sign. A little boy basically shouted out" hey ,look there mating!"
Everyone was snapping images as fast as they could, but I just watched on. I figured at least I could give them a little privacy, even though they were pretty much doing it where everyone could see.
Great image BTW as they don't stay still for too long.
