I agree about the FA 50 f1.7. I have that lens also, though I don't use it as much as I should. Maybe I'll pull it out more often!

Hello Bill,
FA 50/1.7 is clearly a "must have" in this focal range. Robert Doisneau only swore by the 50mm focal length. I do not agree with him, but the question of using it should also be considered by all photographers...

How do people think the FA 50 f/1.7 compares with the earlier SMC M 50 f/1.7? I have the latter

I took about 160shots this morning in the the Australian National Arboretum. I should be out doing some painting at home, so I have only had a very quick look so far. Three below also posted in the Leica R thread.

Here are three taken from today. I am blown away by the resolution of the APO-Telyt R 180 f/3.4.

The crop shot is at about 50% scale. All of these were handheld and shot using audible focus-confirm.

As far as I can compare between 50/2, 50/1.7, 50/1.4, they are all very good stopped down.
I don't have the FA50/1.7 though

I do have both, but I am not a tester. Did not take many photographs with the M 50/1.7 but the FA is very good and I like to have AF for a 50.
