p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Leitax Leica M for Sony FE. Experiences vs. traditional adapters?

Hi all,
I have a few summicrons that id like to adapt to a sony FE system. Don't have Leica bodies at all any more so I'm debating just getting them mount converted (fully reversible). Has anyone here had any experience with Leitax? I could always just get a novoflex adapter but i like the idea of complete solutions.

For Sony FE a lot of people, me included, like to use a helicoid adapter like the Hawks or the Voigtlander because it can give you a much shorter Minimum Focus Distance (MFD). The MFD tends to be long on rangefinder lenses and these adapter totally make the problem irrelevant. The helicoid adapters also let you set a perfect hard infinity stop.

I am sure the Leitax solution is good, but I would want to give up the helicoid.

Thanks Steve, hadn't seen those.

Any else tried the Leitax?

Why not keep the adapter on the body all the time and just remove the lenses? Does the new AF adapter interest you?

I have used Leitax for both a C/Y 50 and a Leica R Summicron 50.

His products are high quality and have excellent documentation.

I was hoping the OP would get an answer to his question by someone that actually has used the adapter, as I am about to try a Leitax Leica M to Sony FE myself.

I currently have dedicated calibrated M to E adapters for each of my several M mount lenses. My thought is the Leitax product is smaller in diameter and possibly lighter. It uses a very cleaver securing mechanism for locking onto the M bayonet.

When I eventually get one, I will hopefully find a way to micro adjust the adapter for precise hard stop infinity, if needed of course.

Simplest and cheapest way worked extremely well for me.....Fotasy M/E-mount adapter. Nothing else is needed.....I would never ever convert the mount of any of my M lenses

Go to the website and you will see the M mount is not converted or modified.

I researched the Leitax route to adapt my manual-focus glass to Nikon F, and their product appears to be high-grade and thoroughly designed. With FF Sony Alpha, however, I don't see the need. I'm currently using Novoflex for my C/Y and R lenses on an A7ii, and a C/V adapter for my M lenses: expensive as adapters go, but very effective.

Looks like a bayonet is mounted onto the original lens. By looking at the website, it appears that this bayonet mount is screwed inside the original lens mount - as far as I understand, inside existing screw holes of the original mount. I am still not sure if I wanted to undergo such procedure with my M lenses......for the amount of money spent for each lens conversion, I can buy a bunch of simple M/E-mount adapters!

I've used Leitax in past when I was shooting Canon bodies. They are rock solid! If you have a lens that you want semi-permanently changed to a different mount, especially a heavy lens, they are a good way to go.

Hey everyone, didn't want to create a new thread but is the leitax site down? Have been reading up on it only to not seem to be able to access when I'm ready to pull the trigger

This is an important consideration for rangefinder lenses. I often find myself using the helicoid for close focusing purposes.

No, it's a 2 piece adapter, one piece fits under the M flanges then the main adapter section fits over the top and the screws essentially "crimp" the 2 sections together, clamping down on the M flanges.

The site seems OK to me...

Still....why all this hassle when you can accomplish this easily with a $10 M/E-mount adapter piece....I am using mine for > 3 years now to adapt CV and Leica lenses on my Sony without any problems. And I can instantly use the M mount lenses on the fly on my M series cameras, too.

Yep, same here although for me it's about being able to use the close focus adapters.

I used the Leitax M to Sony FE on my 85/4 ZM and I like it a lot. Works great.
I like just having one king of lens rear caps and body caps to deal with.

Highly recommended.

Here it is with the A7RII and 85ZM:

Can any of you fine chaps help me out with a leitax email I can contact them by?

I've googled and not only "leitax.com", but even the various sub-pages for Nikon/Canon/Shimming returned a "site cannot be reached" error.

Its the same on 2 PC's at different locations, and also on my phone.

I did eventually purchase this Leitax adapter and it is currently on a Leica Tele-Elmar 135/4. I agree it works great. It is light, very precisely made and it may focus a hair past infinity, just to made sure most lenses don't have hardstop infinity issues. I shimmed my Tele-Elmar to give precise hardstop infinity with the Leitax. I removed the Leitax label and fitted a strip of nice leather to replace it. When installing, take care not to torque the screws down too much, as they are just pulling on the M Lens bayonet for snugness and the key/pin prohibits any adapter rotation.
