Want to share some of the bird shots I've taken in IL, MO and NM.
As a child growing up in Santa Fe, NM, my grade school teachers introduced me to blue jays in coloring books and other printed media. I had never laid eyes on a real blue jay until we visited my wife's dear mother in Lee's Summit, MO several years ago. I was amazed at their beauty. I know some see them as mean and cranky, but all my eyes saw was the gorgeous plumage they wore.
The cardinal was part of a 500 image group I shot on a cold, snowy day in Chicago.
The quail that wonder around our property here in southern New Mexico require full camo to get close to. You also need lots of patience and must keep an eye out for the rattlers.
The hummingbird was part of a 1000 group shot (or so). While I really love seeing what I 'caught' when taking a look at a days worth of shots, they critter's require your full attention if you hope to be successful.
I came across female turkey while poking around the back of my dear mother-in-laws backyard which was really just a small forest. She chased after me because she had a brood nearby. I was fortunate to have taken the shots I did before she chased me off. I really miss Mom's backyard.
