p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Bay Area waterfowl and shorebirds

Spent a few days for work in the Bay Area last week, and managed to squeeze in a little pleasure with business. First handful is from Princeton Harbor where there are still a few shorebirds hanging around; second handful is from Golden Gate Park where there are some great opportunities for interesting light (Stow, Lloyd, North lakes).

Comments/suggestions always appreciated.

Greg

P.S. Tried out the 5dsR for the shorebirds--amazing detail but keeper rate is a bit lower (kayak + tides + moving shorebirds = AF not always perfect).

(1) Black Feathercatcher

(2) The Lone Brandt

(3) Topheavy Surfbird (starting to show some color)

(4) Surfbird buddy (Black Turnstone)

(5) Not really a shorebird, but fun to see the eye and the crests together

(6) Can't see the ring

(7) Mrs. Ring-necked

(8) Juvie Hoodie

(9) Will look like this in a month or two

(10) Must be another eye in there somewhere

Beautiful job on the Ring Necks and Hoodies. I miss not being able to go this year. Great work.

Overall, a really successful set Greg. Super nice low angle shots from the ponds. The first two ringers are my faves. Excellent work.

Thanks so much, Eric! Not as exciting as Chile but closer to Starbucks.

Thanks so much, KD; the Golden Gate Park ponds are ideal for backgrounds, with lots of green foliage that reflects back on the water.

Thanks, Ken! They look more like ring-billed to me, but I couldn't get them to raise their heads and show their necks!

Appreciate it, George! (The male is intimidating but I really love the female in this species).

Sweet stuff, Greg! Cormorant is probably my fav of the group. I was wondering how the 5dsR might handle wildlife. I figured for still stuff it would be fine but moving stuff might be more challenging. Hope all is well!
