Story time...

So...I'm stationed in Turkey, with the USAF. Which means that I am pretty damn close to the whole Syria situation right now. I put this base on my preference list back in 2014 because photography motivates my desire to stay overseas and travel as much as possible. But a few months after I arrived here in 2015, the conflict escalated and the base went into lockdown mode. No travel within Turkey at all, and the only escape was to fly to other countries in Europe. Since I can't afford to do that all the time (and because they've limited opportunities to do so and even now we're in a sort of super lockdown that makes it even harder to travel to Europe), my camera's been collecting dust for months.

So finally, I had had enough. I posted on the base Facebook page that I was looking for a model to do a photoshoot with. I said I'd shoot guys, girls, or pets. I didn't really have any particular concepts in mind...I just wanted to get my gear out. Laura was kind enough to respond, and it turns out that, while she had never modeled before, she was a natural in front of the camera. She had past experience with theatrical training, so that helped a lot. Here's three images from the shoot.

Very well done. The 2nd image is captivating - the eyes, facial expression, hair, skin tones and lighting are terrific. She's a natural beauty, and if you're having this kind of luck finding models in far-away Turkey, it might be time to buy a lottery ticket. The tat's, unfortunately, are very distracting.

Very nice set of images. I agree with the previous poster about #2 being very captivating. You, and your model, did a great job. The tats-really are not my thing, but maybe if I was 30 years younger they might be...... Anyway, nice work and stay safe!

#2 was a standout to me as well as I was editing the images. For #1 and #2, lighting was provided by a Godox AD360 in the AD-S7 18" collapsible beauty dish. #3 is lit with a Godox AD360 in a Westcott Apollo Orb.

As far as the tattoos...well, it's personal preference I suppose, but it's basically getting very difficult to find models that don't have them, especially in the military. She's an Air Force SSgt, and while I don't have stats, I'd easily guess that over 75% (maybe even over 90%) of the enlisted force right now has at least one.

Lovely lady and may you come home soon. Thanks for your service! I did 24.5 years on active duty and another 12 as a Department of the Army civilian--I am now totally retired.

Congratulations on finding such a beautiful and willing model for your creative outlet. I hope you can continue this photographic conversation in the future. I have a personal dislike of tattoos but consider them part and parcel of the military life. Her very appealing presence is distracting enough.
