I'm interested in a comparison between the fotodiox, the lim and the ulysses one. I currently just have the fotodiox. It's ok but I don't like the weight increase. Is the lim one lighter? I've tried the RRS one for the Mark 1. It was by far the best but also the heaviest and bulkiest.

Any thoughts? Which one between these three provides a good grip while remaining the lightest and smallest package?

In tried the Fotodiox grip but like the Metro much better because it's lightest. Perhaps depends on hand size (I'm medium). Also try the ThumbsUp designed for RX1rII. With a wrist strap, it feels like I'm carrying an AF M4 + 35 Cron.

I'm not fond of the metro look. Any more opinions of the lim case vs the fotodiox?

Don't waste money on these things, use them and get them full of character by scuffing them up a bit.
They are tech tools and depreciate like stink, there's no point aiming to keep them pristine imo.

I love my old Nikon F5 & F6 because they are chock full of signs of use.

I find the ergonomics of my RX1Rii were greatly improved by adding the Ulysses half body case.

I'd prefer not to draw attention to my camera and no one ever commented on it until I got the Ulysses. Now I get lots of comments on it.

IMO not a matter of looks – it's not like hubcaps, it's about how it feels to hold the camera. That depends mostly on hand size?

The Lim case and the Fotodiox grip are about the same weight.

I bought the LIM case from ebay.

I can suggest it more than using the Gariz, which I also own for the RX1 classic.

The grip adds much needed ergonomics WITHOUT adding much bulk like the RRS grip+plate (which I also own for the RX1 classic)

Back and bottom.

Now. Unlike the Gariz, the LIM case is made with one solid block of aluminium for the base and the leather surrounds it. Gariz, on the other hand, seems to use sheets of plastic and then use a metal bottom.

Same here. I've tried all brackets and grips for the RX1RII. I find that the LIM case is the best solution for me. Very nice metal grip add-on while keeping the camera compact and classy.

I have the Fotodiox Pro hand grip:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BVYMGXC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which I like, but it could be lighter if they hollowed out the grip (it appears to be solid Al). It's nice and compact, but doesn't off that much protection against dings on the bottom. I do really like the battery and card access - which as everyone knows is critical with the RX1R series due to the small battery.

Anyone have both this and the Lim - which one weighs more?

I don't know what happened to Ulysses.

I bought a Ulysses half case/jacket a long time ago based on Fred's recommendation and I love it. (It looks so good, I actually get compliments on it, although I don't really care about that).

Going to their website, it looks like the case I bought isn't in production and they've been working on a new one for a long time.

The Lim is about 15g heavier than the Fotodiox Grip. Probably because of the leather covering a great part of the body and its metal base (Fotodiox is plastic). The Lim's tripod hole is also aligned with the lens. IMO, the Lim's case is more attractive than the Fotodiox grip but that's subjective.

I had the Ulysses for a while but prefer the metal grip from the Lim's. If I remember correctly, the Ulysses' case is also bit heavier.

I took the RX1RII to Europe a few weeks back and it had the Fotodiox on it - just having any kind of little grip makes it so much more secure in hand, especially when pulling it out of the bag - your fingers cannot slip off the camera.

I will try the Lim . . .

It's nicely crafted. For example: The case's leather covers the Focus Mode letters on the camera: (S, C, DMF, M) but the Lim has those words embossed on the leather. That's what I call attention to detail.

Good opportunity to update on the cases. About 2 years ago I got a ridiculously good deal to get the Sony case (new version for the r2) and today I have a preference for that case over the LIM case in combination with the thumb grip. With the LIM case I have my hand a bit further forwards than with the Sony (which, due to the flatter "grip" ) which encourages more thumb base pressure with the front 3 fingers playing pressure up front.

On that note, however, I would never, ever, pay full price for the Sony case. It is priced abusively high for what it is. The "clip" close mechanism broke on my case which I "fixed" by placing some rubber in between the clipping mechanism and the clip-on area to close the bottom battery/card lid.

And following on value vs price, there is no better bang for buck on quality that matches the LIM case. It is classy, it has the grip (taking away the need to have a thumb grip if your hand isn't too large) and it has a good opening for the card/battery door. A great half case. I still have it on my back up rx1r2.

Will post photos later.

Just my 2 cents, the best grip I tried for the Mk1 was a Craft Creation. Good fit, looked good and comfortable. More compact than the Fotodiox I believe. Never tried the half cases, don’t much care for them.

The Craft Creations are hard to find but worth it IMO.

If you want a bit of grip and zero added bulk, a Flipbac G3 is a good fit.
