p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Headshots with Courtney

Second round of using fresnel lighting for portraiture. I was pleased with the results, and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. I did this in a messy corner in my basement, but it totally worked

They appear a tad "Hot" to my eye. In no. 2 (B/W) the whites of her eyes have a serious line from pupil to edge. In nos. 3 (lefthand) and 4 the difference in skin tones between lit and unlit areas is somewhat distracting. Keep at it Michael.

Looks a little hot to me too, and maybe a little too high. You have some strong shadows from the eye lashes.

lots of potential from my eyes

lighting
of all, 1l & 1r has the most even light on my screen.

intensity
slightly high but can be fixed in pp or during equipment setup

poses
all are great

shadows
worked well in 1r&l, 2r & 3r. b&w worked for me

nose shadow in 3l & 4l does not work for me
eyelashes shadow at corner of eyes does not work for me

pay attention of unwanted shadows in top eyelids.

come back and share more :-)

Those eyelash shadows are hugely distracting to me. I'm looking there instead of at her. In the last shot a line from her pupil goes across the white of her eye. Is that a shadow too?

Other than that, nice stuff. Like the others, I found these hot.

These are great. Not every portrait needs to be lit with a softbox.
I used to use a fresnel lens light with designs as a main light.
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you all for the constructive feedback! I'll have to try a few things to lessen some of the shadows under the eyelashes. I agree these images are a little on the hot side. I'll post again soon

Beautiful eyes, the images look perfect on my color corrected monitor. I think I like the first one in No. 3 the best

These look awesome! Love the cool blue of her eyes against that shade of lipstick.

#3 left her arm is incredibly distracting. I hate to say, but it looks dirty to me. Huge difference from the lit skin.

Thank you everyone!

And I agree about the arm in #3. It's due to the uneven lighting of the fresnel in a dark lit room. Working towards improving that

I like the fresnel lighting here, and don't mind the lashes. It looks interesting. Not sure what you had for makeup but maybe a little more powder. They didn't call it "pancake" makeup for nothing back in the days fresnels were the standard.
