Took these two of my wife and my older daughter. C&C are much appreciated, thanks!

Nice!

I wish they were both either color or B&W, I think they would work better together. Were they both staged or did one inspire the other?

Thanks dmacmillan!

I don't know why I processed them differently in the first place, I just naturally thought the B&W looks better on my wife, and colors look better on the daughter. But I agree that it will make them look better if they are consistent.

Here are the color version of my wife and the B&W version of the daughter. I usually prefer colors, do you think in this case, colors or B&W looks better?

I took the photo of my wife first, catching the moment. When I showed it to my daughter, she wanted to have the same photo taken of her, so surprisingly she actually wanted to pose.

Can you coax her into another sitting? You did a great job, but I think the photo of your daughter would be even stronger if we could see her mouth. I know it might be hard for her to strike the same pose and it might not feel natural to her, but it would be fun to try.

BTW, You have a lovely wife and daughter!

Thank you for the kind words! That's a good suggestion. I will give it a try.

I like the poses. Both monochrome and color work for me, but not mixed.

My only nit is what appears to be a pillow to the left of their heads. I'd remove that to keep it from interfering. Same color shirt might be a nice touch too.

Regardless, very nicely done.

Thank you, Ksegedi! I agree with all of your comments. I hope that I can stage this again with more preparation.

drats! you got me looking critically at the background and now these _lovely_ photos can not be in my vision at the same moment because it doesn't even look like the same lens was used

i will vote FWIW for the BW. i didn't think your daughters photo could be improved but she is angelic in this

I vote for your wife's pic in color and black and white. The advantage of maturity is she knew how to pose on her arm to elevate her beautiful face so we could easily view her. Your daughter is swallowed up by the lower pose and also looks less natural mimicking her mother's look. It is a very cute concept and I can see the appeal. But, seeing all these together, as someone who is not related to either, I find your wife's pic memorable, lovely, and works surprisingly well either color or monochrome.

Hi Brev, you gave such a nice description of my wife's picture that I have to share it with her, and thank you. I appreciate your comment, and as noted by dmacmillan as well, that seeing her full face might be something that would add to the photo. I will try to see if I can re-stage this, but I have not had much success in getting my 3 year old to pose for me, so we will see.

I might go the other way with your daughter. Same basic set up perhaps but let her create the pose she wants. Capture her energy and spontaneity so you would have more of a contrast which is appropriate given the age difference. Your wife enjoyed posing which helps. One with your wife posing and your daughter being affectionate with her could be cute. Let the concept breathe. My two cents.

Thank you again Brev! These are very helpful suggestions. I will keep them in mind when I try it out again (usually on the weekends).

I like the picture of your daughter just the way it is. Her eyes draw you in without the distraction of a mouth. Lovely pictures of your wife too.

Thank you DaveOIs! I see the appeal of only showing her eyes as well. In addition to what you said, I think it also emphasizes her "smallness" in comparison to her mom (how she continuously tries to mimic the adult but just not quite there yet) if that makes sense. But I also see the appeal of showing her entire face, which provides a better symmetry to the photo of her mom.
