p.2 #1 · p.2 #1 · Zeiss Batis 85mm on Sony A7Rii Question

I have been experiencing the same issue. It was present with my FE 55 and also with my Batis 85 and with the GM85 while I had that lens. Even at high 1/320 to 1/400 shutter speeds 10-25% of my photos were blurry. Sometimes visible only at 100% but others even at fit to screen. I have taken my camera in for warranty service as a result. I'm still waiting to hear what they think, but I suspect malfunctioning IBIS.

p.2 #2 · p.2 #2 · Zeiss Batis 85mm on Sony A7Rii Question

Update: I spoke with the camera technician working on my camera issue today, and he confirmed the IBIS was behaving strangely and has ordered a part. It seems that the IBIS and sensor come as an assembly which seems consistent with the iFixit teardown. I hope this fixes it. I'm concerned that to replace it the entire camera basically needs to be completely disassembled and then reassembled.

So far I'm not impressed with Sony after having shot Canon for years... 2 out of the 5 EF lenses I've owned have been de-centered, one was soft across the frame, and now this. Sony has a lot to learn about Q/A... and all three of my faulty lenses carried the Zeiss brand... My Batis 85 and Sony Zeiss 55 were both de-centered, and my Batis 25 is soft. This is really dis-heartening.

p.2 #3 · p.2 #3 · Zeiss Batis 85mm on Sony A7Rii Question

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead but I was wondering if the IBIS issue was the problem? I'm having the same issue where a lot of my Batis 85 shots are ending up blurry with SteadyShot on. I usually shoot at 1/125 and when SS is on I see a noticeable blurriness to photos, especially when peeping at 100%. With SS off I get tack sharp results. I sent the lens back to Zeiss who found nothing wrong with it so not sure where to go from here. The only thing I can think of is the OSS in the lens isn't working well in conjunction with the IBIS because all of my other non-OSS lenses work fine with SteadyShot on. I still love the lens but it's annoying having to remember to turn SS off or end up with subpar results.

When shooting hand held, I leave both systems "on" and see no blur or degradation.

Ideally, I would try to find another identical system to test with, so YOUR lens with another body (perhaps in a store?) and then THEIR body with YOUR lens. Try to see if the issue moves.

Again, synergistically I have see no issue and don't even think about the two systems in use.

I leave it all on as well and my A7RII and Batis 85 produce very sharp images even at f/1.8 and 1/125 (that's my default setting when the light isn't great). I'd guess the lens is not right.

Just bought a Batis 85mm off a member here, is it possible to use OSS alone or it will work in conjunction with the IBIS on A7II?

The lens doesn't have any on/off switch for the OSS. You turn the OSS on and off using your camera inside the menu. I assigned one of the (two-row) Fn buttons for that function. You will get a 5-axis stabilization with the OSS and it works wonder for me. The only reason you want to turn it off is if you use a tripod as the OSS may, again, MAY interfere with the picture taking process. My understanding is, It is designed to detect that it was mounted on tripod but in a few instances, that MAY result in blurry images. But in general, I leave the OSS on all the time whether on tripod or not.
