I accidentally formatted a 256 GB SD card and now I'm in desperate need to recover the lost files. All of them are ARWs (A7rii, card brand is PNY).

So far I have tried 7 different softwares (Data Rescue, Remo Recover, StellarPhoenixPhotoRecovery, Image Rescue, Card Rescue) and none of them were able to recover a single file.

Help is much appreciated.

Personally I use small GB cards and more of them to protect against lost data

Hello to you - I did have some success last year with Wondershare Photo Recovery when I did the same. Some I managed to get back, some were corrupted.

hands down the best recovery tool I have ever used. not for newbies, but very powerful.

I would guess the tools you used were only looking for JPEG files. photorec as the above poster mentioned should be able to carve out more file types including raw

This one has saved me a few times now, requires some geekitude to use (command line) but very effective, thorough and fast.

So sad to know that the ARW files are not getting recovered. However all these software are adept and I have heard about "Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery software" which recovers all lost files efficiently. Anyway, what exactly is the problem? Is your card not being recognized by the software?

I tried using PhotoRec, wasted 8 hours trying to find some files from a formatted a7rii card. They weren't super important ones, but I sadly haven't yet managed to rescue them. I gave up trying to sleep and haven't worked up the stomach to try it again. I wish you all the best, and hopefully you figure it out!

There must be some way, I am pretty sure Sony doesn't do some sort of bizarre full data erase.

I have had pretty good luck using Recuva:

I tried with recuva recently, the files were unreadable when recovered. I'd also like a solution to this.

Good luck on your attempt. Next time, get either Sandisk or Lexar cards as they have free recovery software.

Recuva worked for me a few times.

The last time was a camera we sold, we left the card in it accidentally and the customer formatted it, I think in camera.
He returned it to us and we used Recuva to get everything back, it took hours, all automated though.

Another vote for Recuva... purchased the CCleaner pro package and this comes with it. It has never failed to get deleted files back.

It depends on your OS. For Mac, I have and used Softtote twice and it did a great job recovering the files. The software keeps the files intact but it changes the file names however into something else instead of your usual naming. I tried all of those and none of them worked, including that last one. I did however manage to talk them into refunding my $100 or whatever it was.
