Great shot. I lived in the area for 5 years and never got to see it like this, let alone capture it. Wonderful job! But wondering what the light source is for the trees in the right foreground...

John

Thanks John! This was captured right at the edge of the Paradise parking lot near the Jackson Visitors Center, so the lights illuminating the tree are from the neighboring Inn (hotel). I loved the warm light on the trees!

I think the light pollution really adds to the photo in this case. But I do agree that it would be better if it was toned down a bit.

Yeah, I have shot from that same location and I liked what the light pollution added to my shot, so I am definitely not saying to remove it, just tweak it a bit so it's just an added element, rather then being more of a distraction that takes the eye away from the main scene.

Very beautiful photo!!! I'd be proud to have taken it.

For my individual subjective taste I too would turn down the yellow saturation a bit and overall the Milky Way vividness. But that is coming from someone a little skewed about the current trend in Milky Way shots today. I'm no literalist (as many on this forum already know) but I simply like the Milky Way's slightly more toward how the eye sees them. Not all the way, but just a little more that way. Again, this is only one person's subjective opinion and you will never please everyone... Just my 2 cents.

It's hard to believe that the yellow did not blow out but that you still got the MW. I'm torn between wanting the yellow desaturated a little (but still leave it yellow) and maybe a drop in level, or wanting it to be just what it is. Beautiful either way.

That is very kind of you Mark. I am a big fan of your work! I definitely agree Milky Way shots are so hard to nail because the long exposure captures so much more light that the human eye. I want my photos to pull people in and I found that this processing job at least pulls me in haha =) My goal is to keep the photo relatively natural and as close to proper color balance as possible. Thank you again for looking and sharing your info!

Thanks for looking! It was tough processing this one to keep the light pollution from blowing out as you mentioned. I found a happy medium by using layers to isolate certain areas.
