p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Salt Creek Reflections

Instead of braving the crowds and heading up to Yosemite for a shot at Horsetail Falls, I decided to brave the crowds and make a quick trip to Death Valley. Amazing what a bit of rain can do to a landscape. Yes, the wildflowers were plentiful - as were the countless individuals that would randomly stop on the side of the road to take selfies with the flowers. Preferring a more secluded site - I made my way to the Salt Creek area - where there was still quite a bit of standing water. These two shots were taken in the middle of the creek - standing in about an inch of water. Perfectly still - and with no wind, I was able to pick up the detail of the submerged mud - as well as the reflection of the distant mountains and blazing sunset. I kept looking around - but there was no one else to be found - which was ok with me. Thanks for looking.

Absolutely stunning! I prefer the vertical comp but both are good.

These are beauties, love the underwater cracked mud and great job keeping the colors real.

Beautiful work Todd! I love how they are both presented very naturally. Did the mud try to suck the boot off your feet after standing still for so long?

Dan, Jeffrey & Heron - Thanks very much!

Ben - Yes, it did! Although, I must admit this is one of my favorite locations in the park - found through your video journals - thanks.

Scott & Keith - thank you both as well - I enjoy your work and appreciate the comments.

Beautiful color palette. The first one is excellent. The smooth muddy ground around the sharp cracks creates an involving foreground which leads to the amazing dusk colors. Congrats!

Wow Todd you really have two stunning images here. The top one is my favorite. The leading lines are wicked. Love the texture in the mud.

Beautiful work and great conditions to shoot in. First one works for me better as well since the foreground is stronger. Well done, all around.

Fred, Matt, Boingyman, Andrew, Honeysuckle, Psharvic, Rparchen & David - I thank you all for taking the time and providing the positive feedback. I am partial to the 1st as well - although I find I gravitate more towards vertical interpretations - I wanted to provide a traditional horizontal view as well. Thanks again - I appreciate it.
