I predict the main issue with this lens will be QC but I hope I'm wrong.
It would be interesting to test it against the new VC 12/5.6.

I'm eagerly waiting for the new Voigtländer 10 & 12mm lenses, this would have to be amazing to get me to consider it, coma already looks to be worse than I'd like.

Is there an astro shot somewhere? I don't see one on their Flickr.

Just downloaded the images and they look very good, even in the corners, don't see any smearing.
If they are really real images the lens really amazing :-)
Waiting for the Voigts as well and I'm on a waiting list to test them. Hope to test them.
For astrophotography it would be a dream.
Didn't see any coma test as well...

Yes indeed, didn't see it because the images are rather little.
The first image seems to show coma in the left part of the image.
Would like a to see a full resolution image but will have to wait i think....
thanks

I/m not sure I can draw any conclusion from those. If this lens is as good as they say in distortion control, prepare for some huge perspective distortion in at the edges and corners (stretchy stars). I'm more interested in seeing if it has any bat-wings.

Venus claims that this new lens has 0.2% distortion, which for such an extremely wide angle lens (for full frame) is as close to zero as it gets. (Should be totally non-noticeable.)

It does look like to have been designed as a killer of the older and quite popular lens, Samyang/Rokinon 14mm f2.8. The biggest issue with Samyang was rather strong a nasty (moustache type) distortion. Laowa both fixes that, and improves upon the Samyang in terms of the shorter focal length.

We'll see if actual copies will live up to the high expectations. I already own one of Laowa lenses (15mm f/4 1:1 macro), it was a bit soft in the corners, but they replaced my copy for free (with fast shipping - around 7d), and the new copy is good.

Did you click through to his photobucket acct?
This one isn't too bad, I think one of them is worse.

Yes, I did, still tiny on my screen (admittedly 4k). Zooming in does show vibration blur during the long exposure. And this one is indeed not too bad.

If it's indeed 0.2% distortion, it's astronomically more difficult to design than the Samyang. Wider and much less distortion, I don't even think Zeiss or Leica can make a miracle to have a sharp lens.

Coma: Don't see any huge problem in this image...maybe the other images moved because of the wind (branches are moving a lot in all the images, strong wind)
Looks very nice to me

Strange that several of the astro images seem to show 'double exposure' especially in the left part of the image. It doesn't look to me like this is just the result of tracking error, but difficult to be sure.

Seems to me that the "0.2% distortion" must be after in-camera correction, or there are huge compromises somewhere else e.g. in field curvature. Otherwise this lens would be a revolution in optics design ...

Actually if you look at the Chinese site the zero distortion is not about rectilinearity, but about distortion. They are claiming .2% barrel distortion, which is indeed close to zero....

It certainly looks like an interesting lens. I used to own a Sigma 12-24mm, a fairly good copy. It has a number of really bad design issues where the built in metal pedal hood would add to the already tragic vignetting when stopped down and shot close to MFD. But, at the time is was the only full frame 12mm zoom available and when shot at f11, it was reasonably sharp across the frame. But it's really astonishing feature was the very low and well corrected distortions...it really was quite amazing and I've not seen such well corrected lines on a wide angle or ultra wide angle lens since. I tried a mkII and was glad to see some of the issues resolved...but there was a lot more angular distortion and with the mkI.
The Canon 11-24mm F4 L looks very interesting, but it's insanely expensive and it's a very big piece of glass to lug about for what would be very occasional use for me. A bit like a fish eye...used sparingly and in the right circumstances. So I look forwards to seeing more about this new 12mm prime. It may well tick a lot of very specific boxes for me.

Sigma's old 12-24 has very little distortion at the wide end; can't find the percentage at the moment, but it's unnoticeable...and it's not a bad lens at all. Lots of vingetting, and needs to be stopped down for best sharpness, but I still use mine all the time.

Let's see. The lens is surely interesting.

Let's see if they can pull of both minimal barrel distortion AND high IQ. That's the sticking point-- both of those at reasonable price (and size).

Long time that I did check this this post.
About the strange double exposure I think it could be the wind. If you look at the image there seems to be have been a lot. Could also be an unstable tripod or movements induced by the photographer.
Will be waiting for the next images...
Nothing new since a while for this lens, anyone seeing something ?
Any news somewhere. Because hesitating going for a Voigt...which are not ideal for astrophotography and lack the possibility to use filters.

Why do you say they're not ideal for astrophotography? Please excuse my lack of knowledge, I'm genuinely curious.
