I had a similar experience a couple years ago at the lake shore. I got there about 20 minutes before sunrise and the lake was full. I decided to walk in different areas and take some pics of difference scenes. When i was leaving I wanted to get 1 shot of the typical shot. I had to ask 4 different people if I could squeeze in for 1 shot. Every single person got a little nasty and finally a person let me move in for a single shot.

As a full time professional photographer who has lived about 10 minutes away from those famous peaks for nearly 20 years, I can't say I agree. I photograph them every year, but I now almost never shoot in the corral by the lakeshore, blows my mind how rude photo enthusiasts have become in getting the same darn shot the other 150 people are. And every year without fail, I get highly salable shots that are unlike the ones I got the year before and they earn great income, often on black and white film that I hand print.
So no, not only are there still "secrets" out there that are visually untold, there are literally millions of un-shot photos in the wilderness because a good majority of amateur landscape photographers don't think out of the box. Instead, they see the typical eye candy on the web and gravitate to it like moths to a Coleman lamp.
Back in the mid 90's, you could show up at sunrise on a peak Fall weekend at the Bells and there would maybe be 30-50 people there. Now even on a mid-week, past peak day, there are well over 125 and not 30 minutes to an hour before sunrise but up to three hours before hand.
If it were not for the unreal nastiness that a lot of these people show to each other on those mornings, I would say as guy who wants to continue earn a living at this that I am glad all those folks are on the lakeshore instead of making unique shots. But it is truly troubling that this is what the digital and internet age has turned photography for joy into, a nasty battle for that coveted spot.
Here is a photo I made on the way to my destination one morning a few years ago, a man ( in blue ) yelling at a woman to move who just wanted to take her position for one photo. My friend I was with who sometimes assists me and was off duty as a Sheriff's deputy told him to pipe down and let her get the shot. Neither of us understand why people are so nasty now, it's not like it is their jobs or something, talk of needing a permit has surfaced and I support it.
Sorry to bring a negative narrative to the thread the person who posted the photo here, but I have been at this a long time and what I see is not good, folks need to lighten up, lol!...Show more →
