p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · The Tree in the Forest

Currently spending the winter in Panama and while its a beautiful country it is also a landscape photo challenge. This is where our national park system in the US really shines - in giving the tourist a real opportunity to enjoy what nature has to offer.

Nevertheless there have been some opportunities here that I hope are worth sharing with the FM landscape community. While there is no Autumn per se where trees exhibit fall colors - the trees here still shed, sometimes bloom and produce new leaves in a beautiful way.

Here is one example . . . hope you enjoy!

Dave

Very cool Dave, love all the shades of green and the textures of the different leaves. Great to see some new landscapes.

I like it! Excellent technique produces gobs of detail at this size, bet it's even more impressive bigger. The myriad of very subtle greens are very richly captured, and I like the small orange leafed tree in the lower left - it contrasts well with the rest of the scene. Two other fascinating things for me as well:

1) Hard to get a sense of scale from this. To my eye the scale of it started off 'small', then grew as I took in the details of the scene - this must be a very large tree it seems to me now.

2) Something about this shot gives away that it is in a tropical setting, maybe just the denseness of the growth.

Wondering what gear you used to capture this shot?

Nice capture, thanks for posting.

ML - Glad you liked it. To answer your questions:

Scale - the subject tree is large. . . about 3 stories tall.
Tropical setting is Panama above 5000ft elevation outside of Volcan.
Equipment - Sony A7r, Contax Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 100 - 300 mm, tripod and remote switch.

All the best! Dave

I love all the detail and texture in this. The subject tree really stands out from all the other greenery. Very enjoyable shot.

Good catch and detail.

Ouch, landscape has got to be a challenge there, although perhaps cityscapes are better. Wildlife? I'd probably have Van Halen pounding in my head all day long and not be able to get it out...

Craig - its a jungle like challenge. Hard to find places that are not vegetation dense unless you shoot beaches, in the middle of rivers or in this case across river gorges. Even waterfalls are cluttered with jungle outgrowth. Wildlife? Monkeys and birds are about it - once again a big challenge in the jungle.

The US southwest is really going to look very open and spacious this spring!!
