I'm sure the RX1 is a great camera...but then you are stuck at 35mm. Personally I won't travel with just one focal length as places present different views at different focal lengths.
One of the great things about photography is that everybody can approach it in any way they wish, because there is no right way or wrong way, so long as the results achieved are as intended.
For me, the RX1 series of cameras (including, to a lesser extent, the Mk II version) are eminently usable despite having a fixed lens that offers only a single focal length. (The reason why I partially exclude the RX1RII is that it lacks a flash, which is essential for the photographs I typically take with my RX1. I don't need a viewfinder -- and rarely used the one that I bought for my RX1, so eventually sold it -- nor do I need a full-size, full-power flash, so the RX1 was perfect as-is, with its tiny pop-up flash, whereas without a built-in flash, the RX1RII is a non-starter for me.)
In fact, I photographed exclusively with one for nearly 18 months and while at times I did wish for a wider focal length, I more often than not benefited from having just the one, because choosing the lens to use was one less thing I had to consider before taking a photo.
Of course, I'm a hobbyist, not a pro, so I rarely have to "get the shot, no matter what." And Yes, there are, in fact, photos I don't take when I believe the RX1 will not do them justice. But there are also photos I would have missed had I been using a different camera and lost time due to changing the lens.
With any camera, you win some and you lose some. For me, the RX1 is a winner far more often than it's a loser. And it's a shame that Sony decided to neuter the RX1RII (from my point of view, at least!) by pandering to all those photographers who bitched and moaned about having to use a detachable viewfinder if they didn't want to compose and focus using the LCD.
Tyranny of the majority, indeed!
