Photo "Gargantua"
The Oregon Coast comes alive during the Winter. With storms coming through and swells forecasted for up to 35 feet high, I dropped everything and headed down to Shore Acres to witness the raw power of the ocean.
I spent two days and about 12 hours being blasted by sea spray, sideways rain, hail, and pounding wind. This particular wave was the monster. The single biggest wave by a wide margin.
For reference, this wave portrayed at this moment here is about 150 feet high. The top of the cliff where the fence begins is about 90 feet above sea level. This photograph captures the wave as it is just beginning it’s ascent. That’s right, beginning. It rose into the air and out my frame another 150 feet before the splash hit it’s maximum height.
