Thanks to some advice from a fellow photographer we visited the eagles at the Nooksack and Skagit rivers in Northern Washington state last weekend. The weather was clear and not too cold. We took boat tours on the rivers and saw over 160 eagles in four hours Saturday on the Nooksack and about 50 on the Skagit in three hours.

The salmon are about done returning to spawn and so the food supply for the eagles is going away. They come from Alaska when it freezes. I highly recommend the area in season, which begins in December, for anyone interested in eagles.

I'm not really a BIF photographer, mostly I just do hummers a couple of times a year, so your comments and suggestions for improvement would be appreciated.

Thanks for the comments guys. It was a great trip with lots of eagles and great weather.

Photo #2 was part of a long sequence I captured. I'm going to share a few more of them with you that I thought were interesting. I especially like #1 here with the shadows from his feathers on his face.

Part of the reason I was able to capture this sequence was that the tour guide was so good with the boat that all I had to do was keep up with the altitude of the bird, the boat followed the pan perfectly. I think the whole sequence is almost 30 frames.

I used a 1DX and 400/2.8 IS II lens.

Nice set. Glad you made up to our favorite spot for winter eagle shooting. I was up there a few weekends ago and had a great time as well. Were these shots from the boat or by the bridge?

They are from both. At the bridge the eagles tended to be farther away. The boat was a much better way to go as you could get pretty close. We took two boat trips, about four hours in the afternoon on the Nooksack and then 3 hours in the morning at the Skagit. The bridge shots were Saturday morning before the Nooksack boat trip.

There are some beautiful pictures to get from the bridge. The trees were very pretty.

Great shots, thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great spot to go see baldies in the early winter....Hopefully a lot of those eagles have moved on south now, where I might be able to see some! Thanks for sharing.
