I will consider it, thanks. There is some appeal in putting it all in one box and sending it off though.

The bodies, someone may want. The little flash units etc, probably not up to snuff for the folks on FM I would guess.

Unless you have something exotic, I doubt any of this film gear is worth a lot of money. And half of it's value to a reseller is even less. I don't think you want to use Ebay, but that will most likely get you the highest amount selling piece meal. You always get more selling separate items than all together. All you have to do is be honest about the gear, sell as is but state you believe it's this or that etc.

If you don't want to sell on Ebay, you could use it for research on what these items are selling for and subtract accordingly for who you are willing to deal with. Selling always involves factoring your time/effort and how much you want to devote vs convenience and lower sale proceeds.

I came up with ebay going price of about $300--350. The FE bodies are easy to sell, if working and in decent shape.

What is "most?" 30%, 40%? DId you check against completed ebay auctions?

Did not check ebay, I was paid about 1/3 more by B&H. The products you are selling can make a difference as they may know they have a market for something. Also look at there stock, if they have a lot of something it's not a good time to visit.

So at KEH you fill out a bit of information including serial number and they give you a tentative quote. Is this normally what is paid, or is it common for them to contact you and offer less once they receive the item.

Right, I had looked prices up also. It's the "working" part that I am not certain of, that's the issue. B&H seems to sell these items for significantly more than the ebay prices, so I'm wondering how much less I would get - definitely less hassle. We'll see perhaps.

FWIW, I too thought about selling to a retailer, for the same reasons. Putting the stuff in one box and not having to fool with selling on line, is very enticing. So, I put several lenses up for sale, but the initial quotes that I got back were even worse than insulting. The lenses had cost me over $2k brand new. I was offered $300, maybe $400 if they received the lenses and they were in immaculate condition.

IOW, they offered me a price that I'd figured was lowball just for the cheapest lens by itself.

Of course, they have to make a profit and they don't want the stuff sitting around in their warehouse, so if they can buy it for 10 cents on the dollar, they can sell it quickly, at a nice profit. You get a check, but it's often worth peanuts compared to the actual resale value.

That was several years ago and maybe things are better now than they were then, but honestly, I don't see how they could offer you anything near fair market value, even considering that they need to resell for profit.

good luck
Kerry

I'm sending a lens to KEH today. They offered me twenty percent more than B&H.

Thanks. I don't expect fair market value - they need to make a profit. If I got 50% of that, I would be content. 10%, not so much.

Anything that I am confident is in good working condition, I would sell my self. The film stuff, well, we'll see.
