Everyone saw that this could be a special evening and the Bridge was crowded when I got there. I was not disappointed. I don't think I have to go back. I am surprised I have not seen another shot from this night on FM.

I added a single image processed from the darkest of the set with shadows pulled up.

Thanks but it is not an HDR, just a hand blend.

Very nice Ben. You were blessed with great light. There does appear to be a faint halo along the mountain edges, but that should be easy to fix. After that, I'd print this one large. Very beautiful.

I think that is a natural halo, but I am ready to print it.

After looking at the raws, there is a slight halo, but I may have emphasized it when processing. I had a pretty sharp mask at the horizon.

Hey Ben - this has the same look as when I was there on Oct 30th? Was that when you were there? Even looks like the same people on the lower left of the river -

Still playing with mine - but I like yours too.

I was there last Tuesday, Nov 3rd. I had people on the right to avoid/clone.

Lucky you to get such a show at an iconic location. For my taste, a slightly darker foreground.

I know you know this...but HDR doesn't mean software based...manual blending two exposures is technically HDR...just done differently.

Yep, way too much DR here for a single. Actually I may try one. I am starting over from scratch. But I process for print and even this one is way too dark for print. I have to make two versions, one for print and one for web and they are start from scratch in both cases.

Wow! Now that is some serious eye candy Ben! What a fantastic show you had that evening.

It might be my crap monitor I'm on right now but the red/orange solid section of the clouds looks blown.

It has to be my monitor because I know you would have caught it.

Hi Dave, not blown, just out of gamut. It is fine in Prophoto, but does not convert to sRGB well.

Ah, got it.

Amazing shot Ben. I would have gladly taken a few elbows in the ribs to come away with a shot like this. If I'm ever lucky enough to get out there for the fall colors I'll be packing a nice heavy monopod for close combat action.

Maybe a taser too.

It is the Bridge over the Virgin River at the entrance to the scenic drive at Zion NP. It is very popular and often has 40 or more people lined up with no place to park. Once in Zion, it is no secret.

I like the darker portions of the mountains and the contrast in the new version. It makes the glow on the main subject more dramatic.

Thanks Travis, probably the one I should have posted, but you only get one chance. It would never be a print candidate without a lot of work.

Pulling up shadows that hard leaves some noise that is not visible at web size. The blended images are much cleaner. But I am glad I did this one, I used that sky on the first image to eliminate the halos. Part of my blending in the first used a gaussian blur at a radius of 250 and was the halo source.

The 5DS R allows some pretty good shadow recovery, but this was pretty steep.
