I think I like the new single frame image even more. I can't believe you can squeeze that much DR out of a single shot like that and not have a ton of noise. Dang...

If (at full size) you feel there is too much noise I think you could drop the shadows back down a smidgen and it would still look great if not even better.

It must have been magical to witness this standing there. Beautiful Ben!

Squeezing for web is one thing and not hard to do, Up to 1 stop is not too bad on image quality, some cameras might get more. The 5DRS-R has enough pixels that a lot of NR can be applied and still have plenty of detail left over when downsized. For web I can get at least 2 stops of push. But I view at print size which is pretty close to 24x36 at 300PPI. I want to preserve the native sharpness at this level. That means almost no NR and about 1 stop max of push.

It is silly to push when you have 3 exposures with one for each zone. For print on DR challaned images I use HDR or blends. Prints on fine art matte always prints darker than what is seen on the monitor so that adds to the problem.

But HDR is frowned on here so I avoid it for web posting. I also have my monitor calibrated for print rather than web so I don't see what others who may have small bright monitors see, even when they may be calibrated. I suspect I need to get a web specific monitor cal and do web stuff from scratch.

It is a slippery slope trying to calibrate for all viewing options...I process for photographic paper printing, and have some preset adjustments needed for web and printing on metal which I do a good bit...

I am surprised that you can only get reliably noise free push of only 1 stop on the 5DSr...I would have thought it more tolerant of that.

Maybe my noise threshold is pretty low:

Anyway, printing itself masks some noise and I have not tested how much I can leave on screen before it is noticeable on print. Also consider that my print objective is 24x36 with no lose of native sharpness. If pushed, I will either get noise or softness from NR.

I am not sharpening my files for WEB. Not during processing or downsizing. The huge compression effect from 8000+ to 850 is enough.

I have been wondering about how you reduce to 850 from the native files...I have a hard enough time coming down to 850 on images from my 5DII.

I use bicubic smoother for downsize. I do run about 10 each haze and clarity during my normal workflow and a small amount of sharpening in ACR, like 15, 0.5, 19 with 30 mask and adjusted per image.

Very fine composition with rich colors and tones, Ben, perfect in all respects.
