I keep going back to Two Jack Lake to find the rare flat water with clouds day. I had little riffles and slight clouds a couple of weeks ago.

Here are my best photographs from the day.

1-4 of 4

Comments and feedback are appreciated. Scott

Great shots Scott. I struck out both times I went there for a sunrise.

I like 1 and 4 best, because they have interesting foregrounds. If I had to pick just one, I would pick #4.

Beautiful work !!!

Sweet light in these, number one for me by far. The color of the light in the other three pales in comparison and I love how the corner foreground element disrupts the inherent symmetry of the scene. Nice job.

Very nice scenes Scott.
I like how you carefully placed the foreground rocks to not overlap the reflection.

Nice Scott. I can see you were trying to be creative with the framing and it worked well. I have yet to see framing as you did in #1. The longer FL worked well.... I was there a few weeks ago and the amount of tourists was a real turn off. Must have been around 40 down by the shore all gathered up behind those rocks.

Scott, all of these are great! I prefer the second image, due to the symmetry, simplicity, and shape of the clouds. Purely subjective, of course.

1 for me, but all are great, it is hard to pick just one.

Scott, very nice set of this stunning view!

The first image is money IMHO and the 4th a tad behind but close. You really solved the issue of a plain foreground in both by composing other elements in it but they are really delicate and subtle which is nice. You kept things clean. #2 and #3, either one, would make a great pano print!

I do not love the processing of the file (colors). It has been something that has bothered me with the images posted from the 5DS/R not only your set. The colors are too pastel and flat at times and just not loving the color contrast. I think it might have to do with the color profile and the software. It is a subjective matter but it is something that has kept me from buying the 5DSR for landscapes. I will definitely look more into this matter.

But back to your images they are awesome and thanks for posting.

Nice, crisp shots. Although #1 has the most vibrant light to it, I like the composition in #2. Very clean and compact and symmetrical. Good job.

Hey Scott,

#1 is really cool looking and is the best of these. I wonder though why you posted 4 almost identical photos though? It's a very good exercise to just pick one and post just one. Yes the light changes, and the composition is slightly wider in some, but in the end, it looks like all the same. So I would encourage you to work on picking just one, and posting just the best one.

Jim

I'm trying to like these...but the component that should stand out and draw you into the photo, the majestic mountain, is all faded out. The first is the best of the bunch...but it still could use some punch. Maybe a grad filter could have brought the exposure more in line?

#1 for me as well. I like the processing you did on the foreground rocks/trees and the light on the mountain is beautiful. That top cloud looks more like a contrail to me (personal pet peeve - they should ground all planes during sunrise and sunset ). I'd probably look to clone that one out.

dgdg: Glad you like my careful placement of the rocks. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Gary Clennan:Glad you like the set. Banff tourism activity is picking up and this is a to-go spot for late tripodless photographers and small and large buses. They come in with their point and shoot, or tripodless, and make noise and blast away and go away. Annoying to me but good for the economy. I guess we can't all win. Glad you like 1. I was just competing with Dan, my buddy, on this ocassion for this shot. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

kwilliam8: Glad you like 2nd image. Its funny that everyone likes somethign different. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

Sneakyracer:

Glad you like 1 and 4. I like the clean images with delicate interests. It is a great spot. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

I used AEB with 10 stop nd to smooth the waters. It causes color shifts that I try to correct. I also converted the files with adobe converter because I have not updated my operating system. And lastly I blended HDR of 3 brackets with single bracket. HDR often causes too much red satuation.. The long and short of it - it may be my workflow or my preference that you don't like more than the 5dsr. Try one first or I can send you a single image without 10 nd stop

Rohanban: Glad you like 2, and 1. Its always hard to choose the spot for composition because the light only comes just right once. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Rajan Parrikar: Glad you like the first. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Chaz: There is no better compliment than the suggestion to print on the wall. It is my goal to make pictures that someone would like to put on the wall. I don't have enough walls though I am building a new house with triple the size to permit some hanging. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

JimFox: Jim - I know you have given me this feedback before and I do take notice and look for the opportunity and appreciate the good suggestion. My struggle is that I want to be out too much and run out of time. But next time I will post one. Thank you for continueing to remind me. Much appreciated. Scott

chez:I have more detail in mountain with 3 bracketed shots, I chose to show less. I will try your processing suggestion and see if I like it more. I appreciate the detailed suggestion. Thanks Scott

kylebarendrick: Glad you like 1. The jets come over this spot every morning aat about 8am and it drives me crazy. Its okay in the summer but the sun comes up later in the fall. I will look at cloning on the contrail. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
