It is a Hindu God with a elephant head called "Ganesha" that brings wisdom, knowledge and new beginnings.As you can see there is an elephant head shape in the rock formation.

killersnowman - as pointed out above, there is a likeness of an elephant head on a facet of the canyon. I plan to have a detailed photographic account of the place soon.
