Just minutes from down town Las Vegas this awesome piece of geological wonder sits in the desert. This was my first trip to this location and I really lucked out with the clouds!... Which turned in to torrential downpour shortly after visiting Red Rock Canyon. I hadn't been to Las Vegas for 12 years but after spending one short evening walking around the strip I couldn't help but notice I was longing for all things natural, desolate, and, beautiful. Haha - Luckily after 2 days of visiting with family in LV, my GF and I departed for the rest of our SW trip.

Very nice Tim. Red Rock is always a great place to get away from the lights of Las Vegas and those storm clouds really make this work. I am lucky enough to spend winters out there and there are lots of trips to Red Rock, sometimes I even bring a camera... Next time take the longer drive out I-15 to Valley of Fire. It is even more spectacular.

Thanks! We actually headed out I-15 to Valley of Fire but turned back at the exit/gas station just before heading down the road into the park due to heavy, heavy rain and lightening. Missed it on this trip!

Yes, that road can be pretty nasty with heavy rain. There is always next time because it is not going away anytime soon. The place is so big you need a lot of time to just drive around and gather your ideas.
