To get anywhere close to OVF performance we will have to wait a few generations of Oly EVFs....I think. I am speaking primarily about blackout time.

Don't have that many years to wait. Will have to hope new Canon 200-600 f5.6 won't be too expensive or heavy to carry around.

You can use the Olympus EE-1 dot sight. I have it, but not tried it yet with BIF, so how well it works, I can't say.

My understanding is that Epson manufactures the panel for the Oly EVF and maybe others. They've just ankounced a 4mp panel, thought to be the one used in the Leica SL. So, there is hope that this panel will be used in future cameras from Oly, Sony et al.

Blackout time is basically eliminated, if you switch of image review.

Having bagged both Nikon and Canon, switching to Olympus, I was very disappointed to get an email couple hours ago from BH announcing that the 300/4 was "discontinued." WTF

Beats me. Cameratimes article is dated 12/15/15 so perhaps that accounts for the discrepancy. Manufacturing can indeed be "discontinued" but I don't know squat. I'm just damn sure disappointed if it won't be released.

The Pan-Leica 100-400 is not pretty when it's fully extended, and you may have some balance issues when you zoom in and out on a tripod:

I was tossed between the Pan-Leica and the Oly 300 PRO - but not anymore - I am definitely now going with the Oly 300/4 PRO prime lens. I may lose the flexibility of a zoom lens but I will have a better-looking lens in the Oly, better IQ, better speed, better bokeh, better balance on the tripod ... and better AF because of the brighter and constant f4 aperture.

The Oly 300 f4 pro won't mount on the E-5. M4/3 lenses are not backwards compatible with 4/3 cameras.

This is likely the EVF we will see in the E-M1ii. Slightly larger an any FF OVF.

I think that lens would be both heavy and expensive. The front element would be 107mm which is the same size as the 300mm f2.8. Also, the patent explains this is a internal zoom lens with a fixed length of 355mm (14 inches). This lens would require a tripod and is not the type of lens you would walk through the woods with.
