Yes, I agree. The thread has a lot of mentions of rangefinder lenses and I qualified the Elmar as a rangefinder lens.

I will be using a Batis25 and have one on order, but who knows when the stock will come in. Very frustrating.

Probably not long after they finish building the structure to house it. 25km lenses don't happen overnight, you know.

In the same boat this wide a lens extreme corners mean very little. Foreground yes

Honestly I'm not a tech person and I could care less about extreme corner performance at infinity. With wide-angle lenses, especially with landscapes, I always like to have a strong foreground to establish a spatial relationship with the background. It always helps to enhance that wide-angle look, so I get as close as I can to the foreground.

Another lens that has excellent performance on my A7r is my Leica R 50mm f2 Summicron which should also perform extremely well on the A7rII.

See what I was saying about a second mortgage . The scary thing is I had just about every R,M lens made . I even had the famed very rare Leica R 35-70 2.8 cost me 6 grand( you should google this interesting story on it) I can't think about this , my heart won't take it if I think about the money spent. What's even scarier is I went to Medium format and bought 5 backs. Gotta get out of this thread. Lol

You get stuck on a lens just ask me I probably owned it at one time.

Hi Andrew,

On Ebay. The majority of people that buy are either local or China/Hong Kong. I have a 3 day auction with buy it now price, and generally most of lenses have sold within several hours of listing them. I really have not lost too much, generally about 10%.

My logic is very similar to having had 2 Leica M240 bodies, that as new A7s and A7II became available there was a short window to maximize your return. I sold both these bodies again, within hours of listing at 5K each at the time.

You have to decide personally what you wish to keep. If I had kept all my Leica gear, M240 bodies/MM and lenses I would have had about over 70K still invested in equipment that I was using much less, and more so now with the A7rII. The new breed of Sony/Zeiss lenses are excellent combined with the A7rII and the video function is awesome.

The WATE is really the only lens that I have reservations of having sold it, but it is a lot of money to keep invested, assuming there is a Zeiss 21mm to be introduced soon. The Batis 25 is a superb lens for now

Happy to hear that. I only remembered that you mentioned the flash issue. It's still one of those lenses that I'm thinking about every now and then, even though the damn thing is just a brick.

Oddly enough, the 24-240 (which just keeps surprising me by allowing me to not have to make a decisoon on which lens to bring for family outings) has trained me to use a heavier, bulkier lens. For portrait work, there just isn't a better tool than a VG. I have no idea how I got along without it. I am slowly becoming a one zoom person.... but its a doozy. A nice collection of primes backed up by a family friendly superzoom is working for me.

The Samyang/Rokinon 135 f2 is, for all intents and purposes, a flawless lens which compares favorably to lenses costing several times more in various reviews (Zeiss APO 135 f2, for one). However, as with all Samyang lenses, it's fully manual (focusing and aperture).

I don't have an a7r2, only an a7r.

I don't have any of the true exotics and I don't know that I ever will given budgetary restraints, so perhaps I don't have an appreciation of the highest classes of lenses.

But the Contax 35-70mm f/3.4 is remarkable on the a7r. By my definition/experience, it is outstanding once stopped down to f/5.6 or f/8. I would expect the same on the a7r2.

Not an a7rii user, but I can say that the Contax G 45mm and 90mm's are likely to be excellent landscape lenses

Since the update of the Metabones IV and the new update for the A7RII, the 135L is working great now, even in poor light. I mentioned it in my original post but now it is very fast to focus and few issues. Extremely sharp.

Canon FL 55 f/1.2 -- better than on my 5D2

Provisionally:
OM 24mm f/2.8 -- Resolution, and rendering is superb, but the one dumb adapter I have right now (another, and a smart adapter ordered) seems to be causing vignetting/smearing in the extreme corners, more on the right side. If this is the lens, rather than the adaptor, I'd have to take it off this list. If another adaptor fixes the issue, and this lens without a doubt stays.

Not sure:
Tamron SP 17mm f/3.5-- Same adapter, so I'm not willing to make a judgement. Center is very sharp, but significant smearing in the extreme corners, making it more like a spectacular 19mm lens when cropped. I may also need to flock the adapter.

Samples to come once I extricate myself from the pressure of deadlines and the gemütlikeit of the Wiesn.

Outstanding:
Contax 28-85 f/3.3-4.0 Vario-Sonnar (although some CAs in the edges @28 wide open)
Contax 100-300/f4.5-5.6 Vario-Sonnar (APO grade correction, stellar contrast and rendering @100)

Realy good:
Contax 1.4/85 Planar
