p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Smith Rock again/edit

We've been working Smith Rock for a week. The sky the this evening was "this might be it". Probably not totally but the best this week. C/C really appreciated.

Apparently my first upload was faulty. Hopefully this one is better. Thanks for all of your comments.

I really like #2 here, that color in the clouds I awesome! With #1, I like how you tried to work the sun, but the image seems to have a yellow cast to it.

Much prefer these over the other post. The River plays a much greater prominence in the foreground and there is nothing competing with the view.

Love the sunburst in #1and the color/drama in #2. As Jim said #1 does appear to be "too" yellow.

For some reason the images (and your last post) are not playing friendly with my monitor. These look like 1960's postcards compared to 2015 HD images especially the yellow one.

Cheers

Thanks Jim and wembly. I've added an edit with a slight color change. I appreciate your critique.

The edit to #1 looks the same as the original, or the edit was so subtle it's not readily discernible. Select just the ground layer and add some orange to it, or use the Color Balance to remove the yellow and add a little Red?

i like the comps on these. However I am seeing haloing around the edges of the rocks, and seems to be lacking in sharpness. What did you use to edit/save these?

The scene was beautifully captured. #2 is my fav.

Composition-wise, it might be too tightly cut in the bottom as the creek almost go to the edge of the frame.

Thanks Jim, I'll give it a try.

Thanks for looking, Dustin. These are LR + Nik for the HDR. I'll take a closer look on the halos. I did have to remove some CA.

Where is this? Great spot.

Nice scene, nice composition. But color cast on shaded areas is challenging

2 has the nicest colors.

2 also has a slightly nicer composition - more below/less above.

But 2 is missing the sun.

Did you bracket. This looks too pushed in the shade. It cries out for blending/hdr.

If not brackted, why not combining 2 with rock darkended by pulling down middle of curve, with 1 sky, aligning and blending.

I have pm'ed with Psharvic because there seems to be some severe upload issues. The rest of his files look Ok on his upload page here on FM and his photography and pp skills are decent looking at the other uploads.

I thought it was just on my retina display but seems others have same issues.

Thanks for your comments, Scott. Both are bracketed and then HDR in Nik. I hadn't considered trying to combine them. I'll experiment with that. Smith Rock is a state park just outside of Redmond, OR. Really enjoy your posts.

This is the reason why I prefer to use HDR in LR. Try it. No artifacts.

Ok he shared me the TIFFs and at full resolution on my retina display they looked good, so there is an upload/resize issue somewhere.

The offline files really do make the image look so much better. The Starburst being the piece de resistance on an iconic view.

Thanks Wembley. I edited with a new upload and hopefully the problem has been corrected.
