Congratulations to ArturS for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 12 votes - View Previous Winners

As I mentioned previously while commenting on some of my photos, my artistic approach is a dynamic process and it will likely last forever. I keep redefining my landscape photography vision simply because I constantly develop in the field and switch sources of inspiration. The same compositions, identical photographic styles, non-changing photographic gurus, screaming colours or static photo locations don’t satisfy my artistic desire. So I am in a constant photographic search. My way of landscape photography execution doesn’t involve going to places and shooting the first appealing composition. Instead I like to take risks and come up with new approaches. Before I start shooting, firstly I need to feel the place. And I mean in it in a holistic approach. Each of my photos is a combination of composition, technical skills and deeper connection with the photographed location. One doesn’t exist without the other. I would never go to the place just to take couple photos, but I frequently go to places and explore them even if I don’t shoot. This photo features Brandywine Falls in BC, near Whistler. Every time when I look at this waterfall I reassure myself that it looks more interesting from its very edge than from the bottom. It was a thrilling and adrenaline boosting experience to shoot there again and execute one of my crazy ideas. By the way, it is 70 metres of that plunge.

Comments and thoughts are welcome.

Excellent image Artur. Very strong composition with all the elements coming together in just the right places.

You certainly are one of the finest photographers out there and I enjoy seeing your work!

By far one of the best images that I've had the pleasure to view here on FM.

Thanks for sharing.
Nigel.

Jesus man, I don't even know what to say. I'm glad you didn't fall? Though imagine you packing up your gear, hopping in an inner tube, and then just riding that sucker down like a complete badass. Keep up the inspiring images. I appreciate the hard work you put in and technical wizardry you always produce.

The first words out of my mouth when I saw this was "holy sh--".... That's an absolutely amazing shot there. Every single element in the photo is pretty much perfect, from the composition to the lighting, to the framing of the photo with the branches in the top left corner. All together that's a stunning photo.

Just fantastic. BTW - I use the same method - I have to get to know a place before I start shooting.

A absolute winner! By far the best waterfall shot I have ever seen! Your use of composition is wonderful, I see nothing to even begin to change.

really dig the comp. The processing has way too much micro contrast and sharpening

That is quite the wild place to put your camera, and a very powerful image, Artur. The falls is spectacular, but the rest of the image is a bit strong on contrast as you can see in the sky and the intense colors. I wish the light was not so scattered, but that might be the way it was. And you can lose the dangling branch on top. Those things rarely add anything important to an image.

A very dramatic composition combining perspective, vision in motion with well balanced tone values. I hope you were tethered to a tree to prevent that 70m dive.

Hey Artur!

This is truly incredible work! And i mean on all counts, i really respect your approach on exploring new locations and angles, this is what landscape photography is all about to begin with.
The only minor issue here is the top branch.

Cheers!
Andrey

This is truly inspirational work, that rely influence me to try not rush shooting as soon I reach such amazing place, and explore how to get a dynamic / dramatic compostion. I tried it before it really isn't as easy as it sound but as you can see its worth it.

Spectacular, except for branch in top left that I do not particularly like in the image.
