They have more than a passing resemblance to current Sigma lenses aesthetically.

They seem very close to each other, that 35mm seems great though

p.1 #4 · p.1 #4 · Tamron introduces new 35/1.8 and 45/1.8 SP VC lenses

I'm very curious about these for use on Canon DSLR, particularly the 45. I've been eyeing the Canon 35/2 IS for some time as it's slowly crept up in price, so not sure the Tamron would be a lot more compelling. Though its close focus ability is interesting for the rare times it would be useful. I've held off on the Sigma Arts because I don't want huge lenses and am a bit skeptical about their AF constancy/performance vs. native Canon. This last point is probably what concerns me most about the Tamrons too. If they add an 85/1.8 VC with great (Batis-like) wide open performance, I will be even more interested, since I shoot my 50L and 85L around f/2 much of the time anyway.

Just noticed that the 45mm 1.8 has a 1:3.4 macro range (and the 35mm and impressive 1:2.7), that makes it seem like quite the do-all normal prime! I could see this being popular for wedding stuff, can grab details close and stable with VC, and still have a very sharp normal all without swapping!

I just wish Tamron would make that 35mm in FE mount! Or that a cheap adaptor with contacts lets the lens AF at near-native speed on an A7rII... the system is missing an f/2, moderate size, moderate price, sharp, fast-AF prime!

I'd drop $600 tomorrow on something like that. Even without the VC for a minor shrink.

I would like a 45mm in FE-mount, a perfect combo with the Batis 25&85.

Already tested them both and I must say I`m impressed! It`s a pity it was a 15min shootout(

They both tack sharp, with creamy bokeh and really nice 'macro' capabilities.

Some portraits shot wide open.

35/1,8

45/1,8

And some tighter crop in color

The cosmetics are identical to their other recent high-end lenses like the 24-70 VC

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong 24-70 VC as the one on the right below looks like classic Tamron design but the lens on the left looks very Sigma Art.

My bad, I was actually thinking of the 15-30. The 24-70 still has the old gold ring & lettering (if you see it in person, the only real cosmetic difference is the lettering).

Looking at a few reviews, I may pick up the EF mount version of this for my A7 II. It'll be effectively a manual focus lens with my cheap Fotga EF to FE adapter, but I'll get electronic aperture control, and the price is cheaper than other manual focus lenses in its aperture range with the quality it seems to have. I'll definitely rent one to see how well it works in practice.

The Sony mount is A mount...no native E mount. I'd need to spend another $300 for the A to E adapter.

Thanks, LivingLoud, for these samples. When these lenses were announced I thought I'd only be interested in the 35/1.8 but the 45/1.8 looks very appealing too. I'm assuming you were using either Canon or Nikon versions of the lenses.

I ordered an LA-EA3 adapter from B&H (they're impossible to get in Australia) as soon as I learned about these Tamron lenses, figuring that the AF on the Sony version would be superior to the Canon version (with an EF to E-mount adapter that supports AF). Now I'm looking forward to reading some reports from A7II/A7RII users who've rented or purchased the Canon version.

Are these part of a new product line? If so yeah it's pretty strange to start with the 35 and 45. If this is part of an existing line that already has the major focal lengths covered, I don't see the harm in filling in one of the "spaces."

Yeah, I'm a bit confused as well. Especially the 1.8/35. Every vendor has a fast 35. Why compete? Why spend time and resources to make Yet Another 35(TM)?

At least the 1.8/45 is a more uncommon focal length. Slightly more useful.

I'd be way more impressed if they picked focal lengths that are rarer or more unusual. For example, a 65, or a 70. Or a 90. Just outside of the usual ranges, enough to change your framing/cropping ever so slightly, enough that you can't do a straight 1:1 comparison with five other off-brands, and CaNikon.

I suspect that the Tamron 35/1.8 will appeal to more than a few Sony users for whom the Zony 35/1.4 is too large/heavy/expensive while the Zony 35/2.8 is too slow with average bokeh. I have (and like) both of the Zony 35's but, if this 35/1.8 works reasonably well with the A7 cameras, I'll definitely buy one.

I agree with you about the desirability of rarer focal lengths. A perfect companion for the 35/1.8 would be a 75/1.8.

My canon 35 f/2 (non-IS version) is sticking on focusing more and more lately. I was looking at the new version but the tamron has me interested too. And now I can't decide!
