This was taken from the windshield of my Mooney 201 aircraft from an altitude of 11,500 near Prescott, AZ. There were numerous rain showers in the vicinity and I was glad to see this sunrise to help me avoid them.

This is a cool view, it must have been a great sight. But the photo has a few issues. The blue cast is too heavy, the blown out sky in the upper right hurts the shot, and it is soft and noisy.

You have the opportunity to shoot from up in the air you should be shooting with something better than an automatic cell phone camera. Carry a real camera with you up there, the benefits would totally be worth it.

I agree with your curtique in every respect. My Canon 1Dx and collection of "L" series lenses were secured on the back seat. For the previous hour, I had been flying through rain and turbulence - in total darkness, and photography was not exactly on my mind. Had I taken the time to retrieve my "real" camera, the moment would have been lost, All considered, I don't think this is too bad a shot for an iPhone - and as I recall, what I saw was pretty much what is depicted here.
