I love single exposures for star trails, especially with long exposure noise reduction becoming what it is today. Although I doubt you even needed that on the A7S sensor, especially if it was cool enough.
I know it's just as easy to rattle off a sequence of 30 sec exposures and layer them together, but there's something satisfying about clicking one single shot and seeing *exactly* your creative vision on the back of the camera. It's difficult to explain to some folks who are gung-ho about "RAW capture, anything goes in post-production" ...however as someone who got started in the film days, I feel like picking your in-camera settings, including everything from Picture Styles to lens and exposure settings, is a rewarding throwback to the days when we had to "commit" to using Velvia 50, or Provia 400, or whatever it was we needed to "get the job done"...
Fantastic image; I'm totally going to borrow this concept of "jump to light speed" visual effect with the motion of the stars...
[Edit] Also, I think I may have already said this on Facebook, but I gotta be honest with the 11-24mm crowd: This is one of the ONLY images I have ever seen that makes me think "hmm, 11mm was really useful here" ...instead of "wow, that's a whole lot of wasted composition around the edges..."
Good job Mark on truly utilizing new technology to push the envelope. (I think all or most of the other 11mm images that I've actually appreciated were yours too, BTW)
