I like the Mars color balance perspective. Better put on my space suit! I think that's really creative.

The foreground is oof and the core is over exposed.
Maybe bring down the highlights a little?
Too much unsharp mask (?high pass filter) will create little black halos around the stars.

Very surreal, I like the mood and color. Nice job.

Hey Ton,

Where was this taken?

I like the potential in here, and certainly tones and WB's are your choice, but the color tones in this do not look realistic at all. But that's your choice. The biggest issue I see and I think David addressed it a bit, is the what looks to me like a combination of too much sharpening in a Noise Reduction software. The Luminosity reduction is set too high so you can see the Milky Way turning into glass and losing all it's details. And then you can see the combination of the too high NR and the too high sharpening with the dark halo's around all of the stars.

Getting noise in star shots is pretty common, and I don't have any secret solution to it. I just know that often it takes the skill of a surgeon to delicately balance noise reduction and sharpening to end up with a sky that looks realistic and not butchered with the glassy/halo look.

Hello TON HUNG, I personally like the second one. I love the color transition from top to bottom. As far as the star it looks better than the first one. I am still learning so I am still trying to find the balance between sharpness and noise reduction. I do have one question though about the star. It is about the blue star that scattered around the image (more pronounced around the top of the image). It is pretty but I have seen people try to fix it by making it a white star. Just trying to understand why is it blue? And how do you fix it? Thank you Ton Hung.

That's what I was thinking as well. Great shot! You don't have to always have accurate colors although the second shot looks great as well.

I have been take lot of milkyway last few days, the blue color come and go through the night, when I change the ISO and painting the rock, it happen when either one of them change, I used to change the WB to K to keep the warm colors or use Nik to take the saturation of blue color out after that, on Youtube have many of video show us how to work on the milkyway pictures with the LR and PS, you can take a look and Me too , thank you Skyapad very much

Rick...stars that are blue are usually hellium stars that burn at very very high temps around 50,000C(28,600C-50kC). They are usually young stars. As the earth turns the view of the sky will place them in different areas of the sky and they are different starts also.
Simple factual explanation.

when there is light pollution or just left over light from the sunset you should try using a lower iso. I think it will give you cleaner results.
Even though the D4s is very good with high ISO, light in the sky at high iso can lead to noisy results.

There is a lot of green, yellow, red and blue dots that don't seem like stars in the shot.
I don't mind the color cast overall I think its cool and creative but the sky looks to have odd artifacts.

Ton, I enjoyed the coloring in the first picture, but the foreground
out of focus, and to me, needed a bit of straightening...
But, the second is really quite well made!
