Mute swans can be pretty aggressive birds. They have been observed threatening Canada Geese (but don't seem to mind smaller Mallard ducks). In this sequence of shots, two White Pelicans landed on a wastewater treatment plant pond that is usually frequented by swans. This pond had only one swan present at the time.
In the first few shots you can see the threat posture of the swan as it approaches the pelicans. Normally the threat posture is indicated by half-raised wings (a pretty sight). The pelicans fly off to another area of the pond (different lighting and background) but before landing, decide that the approaching swan is too threatening. So the pelican takes off again. My panning could be improved, but these are just record photos.
