This hornbill returned to the nest cavity...but we didn't manage to see if anyone was there to greet him.

Great Eric. Hornbills are such a diverse family of birds. The male seals the female in the nest cavity and feeds her through a small hole until the young are ready to fledge. So he was likely scouting nest site possibilities.

Thanks Dan...they are all over the place but I usually find they are back lit or have branches in front of them...so this was pretty nice

Thanks Don...you are probably correct about finding a suitable nest hole...I wonder if the females know they are going to be holed up....reminds me of Edgar Allen Poe's "Cask of Amontillado"...but with a happier ending
