I just discovered an "Infrared Photo Thread" on this landscape forum -- started by johnahill-- that had posts from June 2014. There were contributions by parsons, Klaus Priebe, Nori, camboman, another_mikey, and rongwam.
I'm pleased to see someone put up IR. I don't see many IR images on FM. I've been in touch recently with another FMer who is just starting to do digital IR and it led me to look for some of my old IR film images.
That led me this morning to try to start a color film IR thread, inviting any FMers who used to do color film IR work (or still do) to post some of their images.
I'm an old IR guy--starting with mono IR and some color IR in my film days beginning in the early 70s (both of which were hard to process in my darkroom due to the sensitivity of the film to skin temperature when I handled it, even with cloth gloves).
Then I began doing IR again when I got my first digital cameras beginning 2001. My first was a Canon PowerShot G1 using IR filters and then mono IR with a Sony f707 using the nightshot mode and filters (both IR and ND with the nightshot mode). Then I had LifePixel convert a Canon G9 to mono 720nm which was great until I got an urge to try color IR and had a Panasonic GH1 converted to 590nm. After I sold that camera, based on my great satisfaction with the color IR, I had an Olympus E-PL5 converted to 590nm by LifePixel--which is what I use now for IR photography.
I had scanned almost none of my own film IR work into my LR image database. But I did find a few. To get us started in this IR film thread, here are three images using Kodak Ektachrome color IR taken with my old Leica M2R in Hawaii in 1982. Not great images but they reflect my struggle with color IR film and are my reason for being delighted with the emergence of digital IR. I thought I would use these three images to see if there are others of you out there who have done color film IR.
Hope to see some other color IR film images from some of you. I'll put up some of my digital IR stuff on another thread soon. Hope this film IR thread draws some contributions. I would enjoy seeing some work that was more successful than my poor IR film efforts.....
Thanks - Phil
