Those horses were simply amazing and I'd loved to have spent more time close to the herds - we only saw them that one day though. This area is incredibly vast. On the plane home we flew for 2.5 hrs from Hailar to Hoh Hot and the first two hours there was no sign of life or habitation .. that means over 1,000 kms in a straight line of just snow covered plains and mountains. I've no idea if we were to fly North, East and West how far the same emptiness would extend to but we are certainly looking at hundreds of thousands of square kilometres of tundra and taiga. And that's just Inner Mongolia !

I was dreading the cold but in the end I absolutely loved it. I would love to go to the Arctic / Antarctic now.

Cameras and lenses all worked well (well the AF made some strange noises on the last day but survived - Nikon checked it and said nothing amiss so it must have just been the cold) and funnily enough the only item that gave me some worries was the gimbal - guess the grease was freezing up as manipulation loosened it up.

Those horses were quite magnificent in the snow - I was just trying to get even somewhere close to doing them justice.

Holy crap. Some wonderful stuff here. Snowy owls # 4 and #9 are super nice. The #19 wild horses is just over the top.

I'm a great fan of wild horse shots, as we have them here in North Carolina in the USA ( a not so commonly known fact) and I love to photograph them here. I just LOVE the mystical feel of that image. You have indeed inspired me to get hopping this Spring and do some more serious work with the wild horses we have here. You can read about them on my web site www.NCWildHorses.com.

I'd love to see more of your wild horse images from there. Super work, all of it, but I am just so blown away with that horse shot.
