This is from Labor Day weekend, last September. I got there early, did some scouting and waited four hours in the stifling heat to have an opportunity for some color at sunset. The color lasted for less than two minutes; more like 90 seconds. This is the image from the crescendo in the color show. I used an ND filter to smooth out the wind ripples in the lake.

I slept in my car to shoot sunrise, but the color show took the morning off.

Sleeping in your car is dedicated. Love the soft colors. See what you think about about a 16x9 crop coming off the bottom.

Very nice, I used to live near Mono Lake but didn't own a DSLR then. Definitely want to go back and shoot it after seeing this.

Very nice, soft calming color. I like this.

Sometimes there are some very garish Mono Lake shots . I'm not too into those.

Excellent imaging, Tex. It's not easy to come away with meaningful photos from Mono. Nice work.

Really nice! So often with this location the tufas take a central foreground location and they just seem kind of busy. I like that you chose to go with simple blurred colorful beautiful water. It adds to the abstract quality of your image overall, which I think is entirely fitting for this location which doesn't even seem to be on Earth!

Gorgeous image Tex. I am also a fan of the 16x9 crop idea. I think it feels more balanced with a little off the bottom.

Gorgeous shot. It would make a great looking print. One minor thing I would like to see is slightly more separation between the tula's and background hills, just to make the tufas a bit more prominent. Definitely not a deal breaker for me though as it is already great.

Beautiful shot. It also seems to offer crop flexibility. It is wonderful the way it is and probably with other compositional schemes.

Tex,
wonderfully done. Mono is not a easy place to shoot. I like the original composition better.
