Hi All...

Woodpeckers often make holes in Arizona’s saguaro cactus and use them for their nests. Once the woodpecker’s nest is abandoned, it becomes an opening for other birds to move in such as this small house sparrow.

Great pic Tom. How do the woodpeckers avoid those spines though?

Jeff...If I have time over the weekend, I'll take a look at converting to B&W. Thanks for the idea.

Bill...I guess the woodpeckers have learned over the centuries of evolution that they need to use the spines as perches rather than becoming pin cushion material. They're very adept at avoiding them.
