Bald eagles will sometimes fight to the death, especially over nesting territory. As our numbers of local bald eagles increase, so will territorial disputes as they usually require a mile apart between nests. Here is a short video of a recent bald eagle rescue performed by Ben Wurst of the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. Both eagles had talons locked and were hanging for an unknown amount of time. Ben is in charge of restoring nesting habitat and he monitors and bands osprey nests throughout the state as well as working with peregrines and other raptors. Unfortunately, the outcome of this rescue was unfavorable for both eagles. Here's the video:
