These are lovely, Kirk! No idea about ID but so-called "leucism" is a generic term for reduction/absence of pigment cells as opposed to pigment itself (which is albinism, and which is why "albino" individuals often have red or pink eyes). The mammalian counterpart would be a Boxer or a Dalmatian (I can definitely see the resemblance!)

Thanks Birdie, thrilling indeed... I was so afraid of scaring it off as I inched closer. On Sunday I was able to get closer and it didn't seem bothered by me, it stayed until it was finished bathing for a few minutes. I'm so hoping it stays close by for awhile. If it does I will probably setup a makeshift blind for closer access.

I'm no expert on hummingbirds, but my Sibley guide shows both Anna's and Allen's Hummingbirds wintering in southern CA with Anna's having a much greater range. It also has a short, straight bill and longer wings like your bird. I'm leaning towards it being an Anna's. Did you get any photos of the tail spread out? That could help nail down the ID as the Anna's Humminbird has wider and more rounded tail feathers.

Technically great shots. You're one lucky photographer. Wow, what a great surprise in your yard. One for the record books, huh? The one of it laying in the water, and then laying on the rock are absolutely adorable.

As expected, I'm back too....wowza Kirk...remarkable shots....these have to be published somewhere...can't be too many shots of this type of hummer anywhere.

He/she has now been around and seen for three days in a row, as territorial as Hummers are, I'm hoping this means he/she will be around for a good while. Needless to say I feel so fortunate to have the privilege of this rare visitor in my yard and to share it with everyone.
